I recently (5000km ago) had a set of extractors fitted to my 80 series cruiser - 1HZ - and was pleased with the resultant increase in performance. It's still a Massey Fergusson with a cab but none the less there was an increase and I'm pleased with it.

The question is, this morning while doing the usual checks under the hood , I noticed that all of the pipes are starting to discolur next to the block EXCEPT the front one. I am not surprised at the discolouring but is there some sinister reason behind the front one staying black (original colour) ? Is it that the front one gets a bit more airflow and stays cooler or is it possible that there is a fuel injection problem of some sort?

The truck has done 225 000 km and I was planning on getting the injectors serviced before heading out to Lawn Hill and the Gulf in June. It runs smooth and sweet and the oil and filter are changed every 5000 km. I also run Chemtec additive in the fuel.

Any advice or previous experience with this would be much appreciated.

Cheers

just a heat thing mate, all extractors will get this for a while, you are spot on with the reason the first one is not as discoloured, if you look closely, the back of the first pipe will look slightly discoloured too. and it will get progressively worse towards the back of the block

many motox blokes take a oxy to thier stainless exhaust systems and heat it up to get the blue and purple colors in the exhaust, it is just the same principle with yours, you just have paint over the top of the metal
