G'day People,
Have just bought myself one of the above and have what I think is a tuning problem at about 1500-2000rpm.
The vehicle has only done 18000k's and apparently been serviced regularly, although I have my doublts about a tune.
Engine seems to run ok when not in gear and doesn't have any sputtering etc.
However when I am driving and going through the gears it appears to have a flat spot at about 1500 to 1700pm.
Was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem?
Also have a warn winch bar and winch fitted, however it appears that a front spring has given out under the extra weight as the front drivers wheel is about 5cms lower than the passengers side. Went to get a wheel alignment done because of a slight pull to the left and was told they cann't do it because of the different height of the springs.
Have organised a new old man emu kit to go under the vehicle but am concerned about the pissy suspension that appears to come out with the vehicle.
Any comments.
Regards

Whoever installed the bar should of put spacers in the front too allow for the weight
remember the tj is US and the passenger side will be higher too allow for the driver ussually about 2cm not 5
An new setup of springs and shockers will solve this
check your air filter for the flat spot - if you can get it on a computer too check all out as well

Stock suspension only allows for 28in tyres - don;t be too concerned most change them - just do a transfer case drop if going higher or do sye

Thanks mate,
Very good point about the height, would never have thought of that, which means that the mechanic I asked to do the alignment probably didn't either.
Anyway will still get the after market suspension as I will need it if I am going to do any driving in the Pilbra when I get back later this year.
Checked the air cleaner which appears to be clean, but will book it in for a tune when I get back to SA. in a couple of weeks.

Contact your nearest dealer and check if the vehicle was within range of the E05 recall (05 build), and if so was it done. You will need to give them the vin number to check.
It was to do with the oilpump drive gear and can cause a flat spot like you are discribing.

Have a look at the throttle body - my brothers 03 Wrangler was running a bit rough and flat and we cleaned out his filthy throttle body and it drove like new again.

Check the OBD codes. If you have been playing in the mud one of the sensors (like the TPS) might have gone south.
