We have a 4.2 EFi 1993 GQ.

Inititally to start with we have rebuilt the thing after rolling it and all went well in that dept.

Then car finally got back on the road after having replaced also the crank angle sensor, ignition module, coil, plugs, leads, all oil, radiator new, all new fans etc.

Now we had a problem where the car tried to start and then finally it gave in and started. It then a few weeks back sitting at traffic lights the car just stopped with no prior warning no choking nothing. We towed it ack to our workshop and then had auto elec look at it which as mentioned above is why we replaced crank angle sensor.

Then car went ok for a week or so then bang woudnt start again and it was jumped and started ok while at Mt Disa then the next day nothing woujld not start at all though it wanted to.

Auto Elec came and said he hard wired the earth to the battery as the original was burnt out. Then he said if yuo have replaced the module then the crank angle sensor (meaning the new one) is stuffed we replaced it again (very begrugingly) and still nothing.

The car has had a good charge for the batteries and now we have been told the ECU (computer) is not working as something was put into igintion I believe and it was not reading anything.

The car wants to start there just seems to be no spark to get it that last 10% it needs to kick her over.

Does anyone have any ideas or thoughts or tests that could be done before we go to the expense of replacing the computer?

Thanks heaps

try the starter motor mate, alot of the time the starter when it gets older doesnt have the force to spin the fly wheel/ flex plate as fast as needed to get the force neccessary even if there is some spark

Try checking the wires that go into the crank angle sensor plug. One could be broken off from a terminal in the plug.

My wifes Hyundai Excel died the other day. I checked everything I could, including direct wiring the fuel pump. No good. Ended up getting it towed to the dealer. It had them stumped for a bit to because their diagnostics reader wasn't getting anything. They were starting to think the ecu had died. But it turned out to be a special relay had burnt out a contact in it. The relay powered the ecu and fuel pump. $280 later.......:mad:

So just a thought.

Mate would check the starter motor and that everything is earthing correctly and has that everything that needs an earth has been reconected correctly. I have had a simalar problem in the past with a friend 4wd and the earth wire had broken off and just need replacing.
