HZJ105 Lift Pump

Changed the fuel filter the other day & unable to re-prime the filter assy. Blew air through the line & heard bubbles in fuel tank. Hit the fuel tank change over button in case of fuel tank supply problem. Again blew air through line when unable to get fuel into filter with primer. Able to suck fuel up with mouth (yummy) so no line blockage. Is the primer pump repairable? Could it have dirt stuck in the diaphragm?
I managed to get the vehicle going by putting diesel into a garden pressure sprayer and attaching this to the inlet side of the filter. Pump the sprayer until fuel leaks out the pump inlet. Start the vehicle & wait for it to suck the fuel through.
Any suggestions as this is the second one in 12 months. (Previous one was second hand).

Unfortunately these hand primer pumps are, err, crap.

Get an electronic fuel pump. No more pumping and you also score better fuel flow which means slightly better performance and longer pump life (the pump is lubricated by the diesel, so a more consistent supply isn't a bad thing).
