Has anyone out there had any experience with an oil brand called Royal Purple. It's a synthetic/blend oil that is meant to be the ducks nuts.
Royal Purple Sythetic Oil (http://www.royalpurple.com.au/html/s01_home/home.asp?dsb%3D135)

It was mentioned to me by a Dyno guy and he reckons it is up there at the top in regards to component protection, to boot, he states that there is some performance gains to be made as the oil reduces friction and resistance.

Of course I take this first with a grain of salt, but if anyone has used these products, specifically with deisel rigs, your input will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Paul.

i have seen tests done and basicly its the best oil around. and it has been proven to give a power gain with dyno testing.

street commodores did a test companign all the big brands and it shat all over the others. if i had the money to run it i would.

Saw some test results and they look very good to say the least. Claims due to reduced engine wear you can run the diesel oil for 10,000k's instead of the usual 5,000. At $75 for 5L's it's about double the price of non-synthetic, about the same as other synthetics, but last twice as long between services, so you could argue that the value for money's there.. The power gains are interesting, a V8 commodore was tested on the dyno and saw 8hp with purple oil in and reduced 8hp when they put the other brand back in..
Definately something to think about...

Cheers,
Paul.

I suppose then if you used this oil and installed a franz filter would that improve the life of your oil again and give you extra kms between oil changes

I'm always a bit suspicious of claims about extended time between oil changes. Isn't the reason you need to change the oil at all that it gets crap in it from the fuel and its combustion products, not that the oil has deteriorated - so it wouldn't matter how good the oil was, you'd still have to change at 5000km (unless you fitted a better filtration system like a Frantz or something)

Do a search and you'll see the links about it. The web site is Frantz Filters Australasia - Micro-Filtration (http://www.frantzfilters.com.au/)
Matt is the man and his product is great! Been using a frantz bypass filter for 20 years now and swear by them!

You are absolutely correct. And it is especially true on these old tech diesels. Yes a 2002 1KZTE is an old tech engine!

Oil technology available to every day consumers has improved leaps and bounds since the 1990's. But in dirty old tech diesels the oil will reach its contaminent levels (soot loading usually) WELL before the oil itself is worn out.

if you want to safely extend the drain intervals for your diesel past the manufacturer's recommendation you really should fit a secondary bypass filtration system which is capable of removing the soot which the OEM filter system cannot. Even then you must monitor the oil continually with chemical/physical analysis to figure out how well the filtration system is working - the mobs who offer these services can tell you when the soot loading of your oil is nearing or is in dangerous levels, what is wearing in your engine, if you farted last time you changed the oil etc.

Thats my opinion on the matter.:p
