I don't know about the 22R motor (it is a Toyota I hope). I have the 18R motor in mine, and I don't have the EGR connected.
Actually, Since I replaced the original motor's exhaust headers with extractors, the EGR wouldn't work. So had to be removed.
Any improvements? Maybe.
All the EGR does is return some exhaust gases Back into your motor at a certain engine speed.
Which I reckon will actually decrease fuel economy:mad:.
If I am wrong, for certain someone will let use know.

thanks chuckanoo, at work the new model trucks now are egr or scr to meet euro4 emissions. egr has had that exact feed back, higher fuel consumption and loss of h.p.
i have left mine disconnected and have extractors on the way

Myne is no longer in service either. Due to the new headers. Will see how it goes.

The emission the the egr controls is NOX gas from combustion tempretures getting to high vehicles with a egr will have a 2way cat converter without they have a 3way converter with gets rid of the NOX gas that way. one thing that will be detramental to the engine is the temp geting to high will be more likely to burn valves out

Talk about draggin up and old thread. Anyhow, since it's here I'll give and update. Done about 10,000k now along every surface know to man (planet earth wise anyway). Fuel consumption is the same, but got the exhaust and headers done too. Hours on end of NT flat out driving (yeah like my ute can do over 130 with gvm/gcm load) hasn't killed anything yet. So it still doesn't go like I reckon it should (who needs cruise control when your holding it flat and staying under the speed limit), so snooping around at camshafts now. Will probably end up getting a kit from the usa. EGR is still non op with apparently no side effects :)
