as the title says anyone know what it is?
Ive got a 2002 D/C. Towbar states 750kg, which I assume is unbraked!
do a search for this as i have seen this topic up heaps. if you want i can go look on my 2003 hilux, i think it is 750kg and 1250kg max braked, but that is without checking.

Mate i have a feeling its 1800kgs braked. I was looking at buying one years ago and that was something i looked at.
Yep 750 unbraked and 1800 braked and after having around 1600 on mine with the 2.7 I wouldnt recommend it. The clutch was cooked after a couple of slight uphill starts.
agree with boof...i'd rather not put a decent weight behind a 3RZ powered ute...though i never managed to cook the clutch with the towing i did, though i'm surprised i didn't...the clutch in that ute was pretty pathetic, and you could overheat it quite easily....

i have had around 1600 on the back of me diesel and its never missed a beat. (although it is a bit sluggish up hills with a 1500 kg race car behind it)

Ok here's some info from a horsey person:
average 15 -16 hands high horse (think small race horse) = 450 - 500 kgs
horse float (depending who makes it) = 780 - 1000 kgs
so a loaded double horse float should theoretically weigh anywhere from 1680 kgs to 2000 kgs. The lux should be fine as i know a few people who were using the 2000 style lux to tow floats with. As has been mentioned the petrol model's clutch might suffer a bit but most of the diesels were designed with this kind of use in mind (not trying to start petrol vs diesel debate just most rural people prefer diesels). If you are really worried I think you can get most veichles engineered with a 500 kgs increase in GCM (gross combined veihcle mass) which would bring the lux's towing capaity to 2300 kgs braked. It may require a brake upgrade or something or chassis reinforcement.
Personally I use a 97 80 series with a 1hz (4.2 litre) diesel 6 in it and tow a homemade float which is heavy as (prob 1000 kgs empty) to cart 2 thoroughbreds around in. I travel anywhere from 15 - 300 kms on a regular basis with no issues (only mods being pedders "towing" suspension).
hope that helps
cheers
