I have a 93 Hilux LN106 with a 2.8 Diesel (3L) motor. The motor and rest of the car is stock standard. I have had it 6 months and have just replaced both engine mounts after finding the rubber on them had broken.I replaced them 3 days ago and after driving around town on them for a few days and having no dramas, i went offroad and after about 20 minutes driving found the new mounts had snapped again thru the rubber.
My question is does anyone know of any faults with the car that would cause this or is it just a case of copping two dodgey mounts? I just wonder cause the car has now done 4 engine mounts?

Hi There,
Have you been using GENUINE TOYOTA engine mounts? I find there is a huge difference in the quality of the Genuine parts compared to non-genuine parts. I have seen Genuine Toyota exhaust manifold gaskets that are made of metal while the non genuine gaskets are made from non metal materials . You should also check the transmission mounts as well - if they are also broken then that could be the cause of the engine mounts breaking in the first place.

Best regards

hi,

no, the engine mounts were not original Toyota parts. That is exactly what am going to do though (get some genuine mounts). I have checked the gearbox mounts and they are both ok. I just thiught I'd ask the question because I am planning a bit of a trip next weekend and dont want to be limping my busted-ass car all the way home. Thanks mate.

Did you refit the cover on the mount it absorbs alot of the torque or did they just look like this one when removed and re fited http://www.fwd-motors.com.au/Engine/12361-54121_small.jpg

Hi there,

I sure hope that by using the Genuine Toyota parts your engine mount problems will be a thing of the past. I do agree with you about preparing your vehicle(s) for long trips - this should help to ensure that any surprises on your trip are pleasant ones and not vehicle related.

Have a great trip.
