I am from Canada and my '82 BJ42 has a 24 volt charging system. I am thinking of pulling the 3B (the body and frame are pretty much gone) and putting it into an 85 FJ60 I just picked up, problem is the FJ is 12 volt. I have heard that the diesels down there are all 12 volt is that right??

Is they anywhere can I get an alternator with vacuum pump and starter that will bolt onto my 3B / transmission so I can drop it all into my 60 without having to re-invent the wheel??

Thanks

yep we run 12V systems down under.

You can get your starter rewound and modded to use the 12V supply.
Use a aftermarket 12V alternator and make it fit.

Thanks, that was one of the things I thought of doing, but also hoped that a second set (starter and alternator) would be nice, then I could put it back into something that is 24 V if I ever needed it. I will check it out

The other thing I thought of is that I will need to address the EDIC and controller as well. It wouldn't be as simple as changing the alternator and starter. Is there anything else I may be missing??

Thanks

Dean.

the FJ wont have any of the wiring for the EDIC either, that may cause a few headache's, and I'm not 100% sure but you may have to replace the temp sender and oil senders.

Probably the glowplugs as well....

Some 15 years or so ago, my brother had an Australian International ACCO Truck in which someone had "shoe-horned" a HINO L300 6cylinder diesel.

The electrical sytem was such that it started on 24V but ran all systems on 12V. There was some form of an inverter or such like that was in the circuit that switched on the alternator being "agitated/excited" (if I remember correctly).
