Hi all,
Im thinking of adding some 3.5 degree castor bushes to my 100 series with 2" lift, will this be too much for a 2" lift?

Reason i want to do this, is because i want to add 1" coil spacers to the front (to even out with rear) and eventually an over-all 4-6" lift in the future.

I want to slowly change things over,(extend brake lines, castor bushes etc) so when i do go the 4-6" lift, i wont have so many things to buy at once. Would it also be a good idea to fit adjustable panhards now?

Thanks
Mike

Hi mate,
I have found that i should have just saved up and bought it all at once OR bought piece by piece until complete and then install all at once. I have heard that "over correction" of castor causes an adverse effect on steering?? anyone else want to back me up on this?

I would suggest maybe getting the bushes but not putting them in until you get all the other stuff?

I had 5 degree bushes put in to my 80 series with a 2 inch lift and it woks out to about 3.5 degrees and it drives nice. Though with my previous 2inch lifted springs that had sagged due to winch bar, winch, lights ect ect in the front end the same bushes resulted in 4.5 degrees and it had a bad vibration at 80kph ......... more caster is better, to a point.

hey mike I have a 105s cruiser and have lifted it using 3" springs and 30mm spacers with 2deg bushes and after a wheel alignment I'm on the min castor spec recommended. As for your panhards jack the car up the spacer height and see if the diffs start to look as if they are kicking out to one side, mine did at 4" but 3" was touch and go. If you are going to go to a 6" lift then I think you will need to go to 5deg plates not bushes so I would be fitting the spacers and seeing how the steering is first as you may want to put the dollars for the bushes towards the plates for the end lift you have in mind.

Our 105 had a 3" lift when we got it, and it was a death trap. The Missus drove it half way home then got out and said "you drive it and you fix it!".
I put Pedders 2.5deg rubber bushes in and dropped it down to 2" (I didn't like the ride of the 3") and it now handles fantastically.
I also wanted rubber bushes to retain the original amount of flex.

It's almost cheaper these days to buy the bigger lift kits as a pack? Will probably cost more if you do it bit by bit.

I've got a 105 with 3inch lift and 3 degree castor bushes. Handles and rides like a dream. General rule of thumb is 1 degree for every inch of lift.

Hmm.. sorry not having a go at ya.

I have 5 inch lift, but run around with 3.5 degree caster correction.. hmm handles not a problem in the world, used to have a bad wobble but after alignment is now fine.

Wonder why mine is fine like this??
