My trim's a bit worse for wear in the back of the troopy, so I'm looking for alternatives. I'd hate to think what the genuine one's are worth, and I worried they may not be that durable anyway. Out of curiosity, anyone know what they're worth?

More to the point, I was thinking of alternatives. Maybe ally checkerplate, maybe some sort of plastic - even ply wood might be worth a try. Any ideas?

Trace your old ones off onto plywood ( or some other material ), but make them in one piece rather than two piece like the factory jobs. Trace off the mounting holes too, but don't bother looking for longer plastic fasteners, those things are crap!!
The holes in the body to mount them are about 8.5mm, so I drilled them out to 9mm, and put 9mm aluminium nutserts in, ( like this but alloy ),http://www2.blackwoods.com.au/infoBANK/ProductImg/140198176164588.jpg, they're like a pop-rivet head with a thread inside.
Then you can use little bolts instead of the plastic thingos.
I Rhino-lined the plywood later, it's tough and looks ok.

Excellent work Stu! I might take your advice I think. Does the rhino stuff come in any other colours - my troopy currently has a brown trim, and maybe I'd rather go brown to match. If not, black would be fine I think.

Also, have you (or anybody else reading) utilised the space behind the trim for storage? I've heard of someone using it for a water bladder.

It does come in other colours, maybe not brown though.
behind the linings I have an inverter, Max-Air compressor, and amplifier, there's heaps of room in there.

By the way, where did you get the Rhino paint? If you have time, I'd also like to see some photos of how you mounted the things behind the trim. Also, did you remove the sticky brown goop, or just ignored it?

Where did you find the nutserts? Using them, I assume you have no need for quick/easy access behind them? The platcis clips are useless, but they do make it easy to access behind them.

Rhino ( Rhino Linings Australasia (http://www.rhinolinings.com.au/) ) is agent applied, I don't think you can buy the material. I had the whole troopy floor lined as well, it's good stuff but not cheap. Maybe you can buy other polyurethane coatings, I don't know??
Just go to a bolt / fastener shop, they'll have the nutserts and the tool to fit them ( like a pop-rivet tool, but with threaded rods that pull the back of the nutsert, crushing it like a pop-rivet ) I think it was $80 for the tool and a load of different sized nutserts, very handy tool to have so happy to spend the $80.
The same shop will sell you some nice stainless allen-head bolts to hold the linings on as well, cut off an allen key and put in your cordless, and you can have the linings off and on much quicker than you ever could using those stupid plastic clips.
Now, what is this brown goop you speak of, do I want to know?

Thanks mate - nice job there! Definitely some good ideas I might implement.

I'm lead to believe the brown goop I speak of is rust-proofing.

Yes you can by similar stuff to the rhino linings to DIY. Its a bitumen rubberised type stuff. I got some off ebay - buki liner?. I think septone do a variety and pretty sure there are others.

Hey mate i lined my 99 troopy went with small craftwood, or malenmine,my cupboard maker mate did it for me.it has a cover on one side which is resistant to water. stops warping in humid areas i contact adhesive black speaker carpet to it and was still able to use the same clips(i sprayed them satin black to blend in).turned out smick.some 6X9 speakers in there is sweet and the sound is awesome.i also put sound insulation in behind the panels to stop the annoyin drone sound u get on bad corrugated roads.extremely cheap and looks alot better then the standard soft toyota ones

Have fun. Also had triple battery set up.2 12 inch pioneer subs 6 x 6x9's.air lockered and 33x 12.5 MTRS.i sold it a few months ago but still miss it
