Hi all. I have an 83 model HJ60 which doesn't have the child restraint anchor point on the rear seat. I believe that models 85 and later have them built into the back of he rear seat. Can anyone confirm this and maybe show pics.

Also would like to know if the rear split seats out of the Sahara models has these points as I wouldn't mind putting these seats in.

Yeah i'd like to know as well. The owners book that came with my 84 model is for a later model and it shows them in back of seats.

Hey Red, any chance that you could scan the page for me to see?

I bought one of those bars off ebay, but I thought it might have been just as easy to replace the seat. Especially if the split seats have the anchor point.

How far behind the seat do they mount up.
If can't find a seat i will probably go straight down to floor.

You can see where they were bolted,I used the anchors out of an 94' ED Falcon sedan,(from the parcel tray) they screwed straight in and only sat about 15mm high off the surface of the seats fabric.Hope this Helps mate.So feel around the back for seat to see if you have the threaded holes (often these holes are generic on all models, especially imported models).Good luck mate and let me know how you go.

Cheers Andy.

Sorry they aren't factory one's ,I just couldn't remember,it's been a long time since I had "little" kids.I left the pics huge so you could get a good look.

If this works, I will be stunned.Computers and I don't get on.

Mine doesn't have them, looks like i'll just drill the floor. My tubs, fridge and other gear will still fit where i put them now.
My 3yo doesn't like his new unpadded booster seat compared to his proper seat, can't say i don't blame him.

I drilled a hole in the centre of the floor, just behind the rear seat. Used a couple of square steel plates above/below the floor for extra strength. I also have cargo barrier and the strap doesn't rub on it.

Let me know if you want pics.

Do not drill/reinforce the floor as it is the seats that will be the first thing that will fail in an accident. The reason there are no mounting points in the older seatbacks is that they were never structurally intended to have the weight of a strap bearing down on them in an accident. Do not risk your child's life by doing this. Install the later model seats which are structurally engineered to accomodate child seat anchor points and the associated G-Forces in an accident or install one of the CRAB bars pictured (available from Automotive Retraint Fitters). We do these installations every week were I work and we are licensed to do so as these mods have to be legally installed and certified. Don't risk a life for the sake of a few hundred dollars!
And with all that gear in the back of a wagon you should have a cargo barrier in there as well.

Stampy4x4, thank you for your informative post. I made mine strong figuring it would be the best for safety. I guess not. Needless to say I will be removing the anchor point on the weekend and welding the hole up. I'll be getting new seats when I find some.

I'm glad I haven't taken my child out in the cruiser yet.

Thanks again Stampy. You may just be a "lifesaver"...

Sorry guys - I didn't want to ruin all your hard efforts and cast a shadow over what you have done to try and get the kids out and about with you!
There should be more Dads like you who want to get the kids involved.
I would be in the same predicament had my hilux not had mounting points in the back of the cab.
Like I said I see it every week where someone wants to do this and it's not only the older vehicles that don't have mounting points. We had to work on a GU Patrol recently and it was in the same boat - the seat backs were not structurally built to take the weight of the strap bearing down on them in the event of an accident. Couldn't mount the CRAB bar either as that's illegal in vehicles that have factory third row seats.
I think vehicle manufacturers need to do a lot better when designing supposed 'family vehicles'.
Anyway enough from me! Hope you get it sorted
