hey mate id say ford motor but im a bit biased (ford man) but having said that there isnt alot around in the way of gearbox adapters etc. so holden would be the better way to go in that regards. theres a couple of blokes on here that have gone the efi 308 (5Litre)

Chev/Holden is easyer as there seem to be more bits around for the conversion. The electrics are up high and to the back on the Chevs which is a bonus aswell

Ford conversions arent as common as holden and chev conversions. Depending what you will do with the engine in the future will make your choice easier. The chev motors are better for 4wds and are a lot cheaper to stroke etc than a 308 and you start with 42 cubes more in the beginning. The toyota conversion is becomming more common because they are alot lighter. But they are also alot dearer.

That would be the 304 ;)
did i hear you say holden ford or lexus V8....
i reckon the 4L lexus V8 is a good option for a hilux/4runner...

pigdog i thought they were the same motor. just the one called 308 was a carby motor and the 5L was efi. and you are able to swap the carby set up with the efi if you wanted? i personally am going the lexus route. smaller motor so eaiser to fit, keep it all yota and there is a mountain of info around!
thanks for the info boys by reading that i say it will be holden .a 327 would be gd but i what efi no carbys

How much are the lexus v8 motors? Are they hard to come by? If i was going to change motors I would get another 2.8td!!! What warrents a v8 in your truck?

The Holden 304 is your best option IMO.
Plenty of conversion parts available, cheap to fix/supe up and a nice fit in the engine bay.
The Ford may well fit nicely too but I don't think there are many modern Ford v8s out there, let alone ones retrofitted into Toyotas.
The Lexus has many good points but is a much tighter fit in the engine bay than the Holden motor.
Cheers
plus a 304 from the commo's sound way better :D

I've got a small block chev & it's injected, But it cost me as it is a custom job, but it could have cost me more if a mate didn't make it.
What you have to be aware of is the polution laws involved. Usually you aren't allowed to put an engine in a vehicle, if the engine is older than the vehicle it is going in to unless it is going to run on gas.
