Hey guys
I have taken too playing around fitting a cordless drill motor i no longer use into my electric rc car... just for something too fiddle around with. What i want too know is the pins what hold my wheels on the axle... can they just be pulled out or are they a permanent thing?
Also what are the implications of running a 14 volt motor on a 9 volt battery? i can run it with the 14 volt battery pack but i am worried about weight issues. Like i say ill be happy if i can get it all swapped over and able to move, even if that means its actually slower lol.
Just want too take apart and see better how these things work and see if i am any good at swaping engines ect.
Thanks
Mat
PS i can get pics if needed.

It would help to know what Chassis we are dealing with here and what were you thinking of achieving???

the 14v motor will run with only 9v of power but will be much slower than with a 14v battery
i use 12v motors 4 work and can run with 24v all it do is make then run faster

Thought that might be the case. The car itself is just a Big W setup. I am only playing around with it until i can afford something that runs on nitro ect. All i wanna do is swap the engines, i would be doing it even if it were a less powerfull engine i just want to see how i go with it. The car is old and i am not bothered if it never goes again.
Edit
Got some pics
Wheel hub pins (can they be taken out?)

I am gonna have to go with no, they can't be taken out..
Toys are not meant to be modded there meant to withstand the test of time so when they do break you throw them out..

Good on ya matman, you gota start somewhere. Even as magnat said, it may not be worth your while. Its things like those wheel pins and brittle plastic that make these sort of jobs toys so much harder!. Best bet if you want to get into the hobby, buy a cheap second hand quality rc car on a forum (rctech buy and sell thread) or post a wanted. get a hold of a complete set up, bat controller, car and the cars electronics. you will find most keep their chargers for thier new car. if your interest continues, you can upgrade many parts of the complete set up. The benifit is that most parts will be across the board bolt in bolt off. most RC cars/trucks/buggies run a hex shape wheel adapter that is common to all. So you can just buy a new set of rims/tyres. motors are standard mounting to almost all and therefor can be interchanged easly. Upgrade motors usualy require upgrade speed control. But you see where im going. Tinker man Tinker, i love fabbin my own bits. try soldering some wires from your 14.4 bat to the esc and just strap the bat on top. or glue some wheels on the batt and make it a trailer. lol.
Otherwise look for brands such as tamiya, Kyosho, HPI to name a few good brands. take tamiya for instance, Tamiya is user friendly, ease of instructions, parts and engineering. can interchange parts with many models, even some parts from the 80's. Are mostly sold in standard form ready to upgrade almost everything as your desire.
Go on you know you want 1, look at RC tech now!

The good news, tinkering is good fun, go for it !
The bad news, I doubt the electronics that control the motor in that will last long with a more powerful motor. A bigger drill drill motor won't make it go faster, maybe eve slower ?? All come down to how many rpm the motors rotate at a given voltage. If you want to tinker and you can solder well, pull the stock motor out, pull the armature out and unwind a couple (or more) of the wire turns on the armature. The less turns of wire the faster it spins. Can be tricky soldering the wires back to the armature but far from impossible. Usually lower turn motors have heavier wire in the windings, but if you just remove a couple of winds it should be OK.

I know where your at Matman.. I resigned from my previous job due to lack of money comming from them and its been a pain in the rear end trying to get another one, lucky for me Holiday pay will be enough to take care of my mortgauge for a little while...
Then.. I will have to look at selling some of my shares or something..... if I dont find another job between now and then...

I have a tamiya super hornet buggy :p i got sick of drifting after a few tries:crazy: $400 down the dunny lol:cry: I put the electronics from the drifter into the buggy which has given it a bit more power :D hopefully save some power with 1 less server to run now that its got elec speed controller.
How do the elec engines on your crawlers keep running after they go through mud? are they fully sealed or something? after a few minutes of dirt play my tamiya engine loses power from dust getting inside. how do i fix?
