Hi all I'm getting a vibration from my front drive shaft at 80kph that goes away at 85-90kph on my RFS 105's cruiser after lifting it higher with a set of 30mm tuff dog spacers. I'm running dobinson 3" coils but with the steel bar, dual batteries and ralley 4000's the lift was more like 2". I have fitted adjustable panhard bars and 2deg castor bushes as well. If I remove the 30mm spacers from the front the vibration goes away. When I measure the guard height it's 575mm from the centre of the hub to the bottom of the guard on the front with out the spacers and 605mm with, this is not that high for the drive shaft angles to be excessive going on other lifts I have seen but mine is a constant 4wd not part time and all others I have checked have been 100's with part time 4wd.
Has anyone got a 105's cruiser with this sort of guard height or lift and not getting driveline vibrations? if so have you had to do anything special like fitting double cardinal joints??

any help appreciated
cheers Ridenhi

I have a 105..and had experienced a similar situation after a lift of a little over 3". I isolated it to the front drive shaft and thought it might be uni's, so changed both front drive shaft uni's for very little change. My vibration appeared at about 103 kmh to about 108 kmh.

Recently I had a Gen 3 conversion done. In the process of doing this the car lifted about 10 mm due to the lighter weight of the Gen 3 against the 1FZ-FE. After the conversion the steering, which had been marginally "loose" and prone to skating, worsened.

After fitting castor correction bushes the steering was returned to normal. The vibration that was there is now gone, and the car drives just as it did pre lift.

If I remember correctly, uni's allow, or are reccomened for a 7.5 degree angle as a max, so it would be worth getting hold of a tool to measure the angle between the uni where it fits to the transfer case, and then the drive shaft. Can't remember the correct name for the tool but I am guessing Supercheap or perhaps Bursons or Repco will sell the tool if you can't borrow one.

I don't have an adjustable panhard rod fitted.

I did see on a WA website for a manufacturer in the 4wd game, a plate for distancing the gearbox assembly down from its current position, in order to alow the uni's to return to something within their normal operating range. I can't recall the name of the outfit now. Whether this plate is available for 105's I don't know, but it may be worth investigating a suitable number of steel washers between the gearbox mount and the chassis in order to achieve a similar end, that is to bring the gearbox down a little and help the uni's back to the angle they like operating in, if this is in fact the problem.

Hope this helps.

cheers for that jim I have had the degree finder on the shaft as you say and it is about 5degree, drive shaft mob I spoke with say max of 9 is ok but under 7 is best. Working on that I should be safe, I'm running 2degree bushes now but was thinking of going to 3 to see if helps as after a wheel alignment check my castor is on min spec for australian cruisers.
Do you know how many degree your bushes are jim0001?

cheers for info

I put a 3" lift in mine with 3 deg bushes and all is fine.

I did read somewhere that as a guide 1deg castor for 1" of lift.

what your feeling is the top uni joint on the front shaft the angle is to much what you need is a double cardon shaft a cheap way out of it is find a front shaft out of a hilux, but the bolt hole on the transfer flange wont line up you will need to redrill your transfrer flange to suit the lux shaft then get the lux shaft extended to suit the diff flange will fit the the shaft alreadyI have just done this recently and works great the lux shaft cost me $100 was $15 to redrill the transfer and $150 to lenghten the shaft so for $265 job was done you can buy new double cardon joints to suit your transfer but they cost anywere from $500 upwerds then you need it fitted to your shaft

thanks jimbo have looked into this option as well as my 84 4runner runs the d/cardon with a 6" lift but I did not think my cruiser was higher enough to need it, tthink i will take it to a drive shaft place to get the angles checked closer.
