G'day guys,
i have a 2h in my troopy that is fumey most if not all the time & i'm not sure where to go from here. shes got 430,000ks on it now but still running great. it doesn't use a drop of oil, no leaks, no blue smoke & blows a little bit of black smoke only when its working hard. i had the injectors & glow plugs changed about 10,000ks ago at 4x4 obsession in melton & he serviced the pump. i've replaced the rear door seals & aligned the doors correctly. i've look over the exhaust as well to find nothing wrong so i'm now scratching my head.
any ideas

The 2H is a dinosaur. The go forever but they were designed before emissions were an issue.
Its a old tech engine, the TD42 blows smoke when there working hard, its just a thing the old tech diesel's do.
The newer diesel's will blow smoke abit but no where near what the old tech ones did.
I wouldn't worry about it unless it has terrible fuel economy.
Good luck.

fuel economy is fine, well as good as these old girls go it is. its what its doing to us inside the beast thats the problem. on the hwy the kids cop it the most but when we're out bush we all cop it. makes you a bit crook after a bit. i need to find the problem as you could imagine. i can't remember it being like this a few years ago.

Ah sorry mate I just realised your saying the gases are coming into the cabin. Check the firewall, around the gearsticks (boots), around the handbrake lever and plugs in the floor.
Good luck.

Seems to be a trait with the old 2H.The one in the truck is also fumey.Mainly when I`m coasting, wich is not often with a 2H.I also need to get my A into G and seal the cab up better. The 2H of mine has done about 180,000ks.
Cheers D Hall

Check your rear door seals, you may be sucking the fumes back in.My FJ73 does that and there is not a lot of difference realy

Mate, have a look at your right side back door. Mine also didnt seal after many years on the bouncy stuff. When i had it resprayed, the guy just stood on the rear bumper, put his knee in the door and pulled the top half of the door in a bit. Presto!! seal now mates with the body of the car. Be careful though, you wouldnt want to break the glass, very expensive.
Cheers, Goldie

hey guys,
i've checked the doors & have bent them to the right shape before so they seal. i've also installed band new seals so the doors need a bit of a shove to close them now days so it's got me beat. i'm going to get under it this week to change an engine mount so while i'm there i will be going over the whole exhaust again in case i've missed something. the only part i haven't replaced on the doors is the catch for the large door but i'm having a bit of trouble finding 1 as either they're all worn & wrapped in tape like mine or nobody wrecks troopy's around here because they can't make enough money out of them. anybody that has 1 in the western melbourne area thats want rid of it can give me a hoi please & yes i'll even pay for it.
