G'day men & ladies,
Have the opportunity to purchase the above for $23,000. Has just under 17,000 k's on the clock and looks in very good nick. Belonged to a young lady who I don't think ever really took it off road.
Has an ARB bar and winch at the front, and has all the bells and whistles.
eg cruise control, cd player etc etc.
Not having had any experience with them I thought I might put this out for comment.
I understand that the fuel economy is not that flash, but was also thinking a gas conversion might be the answer.
I suppose I just want someone to give me a some positive vibe as I will have to borrow to buy this one.
Regards
PS My poor little suzi vitara will have to go, but I will have a tear in my eye as we have done some great trips and was my first 4wd. The las ttrip of over 4500 k's from Adelaide to Tom Price was a bit of a punish and as I do this trip every year will need something a little more comfortable.

Hooray,
Well mate, I can say for off road use the TJ's are simply awesome. With every mod imaginable (depending on your pocket) you can put these machines anywhere.
Fuel economy isn't fantastic but the enjoyment from the TJ is terrific.
Not what I would consider a great tourer - pretty basic and not exactly quiet - but will do the job if you want it to.
Price seems about right.

I've got one,
It's very noisy above 80klm/hr,
It's very bumpy because it's a SHORT SHORTwheelbase 4wd,
It uses lots of fuel if you use lots of throttle input,
When lifting/modifying you need to be aware of things like SYE's and such,
Small cabin etc
it never breaks down,
it's the cheapest car i've ever owned to service (cheaper than my wife's camry or barina or work hyundai)
insurance is cheap as chips,
more mods available than any other 4wd in australia, hell i own 3 different softops and 2 differnt typres of doors,
It's light and tyres barely wear (unless muddies of course)
the BEST fun offroad and often on,
No roof is awesome,
My kids love it to bits and my wife lets me keep it - what more needs to be said :)
Do it, they're awesome especially if it's a second vehicle.

The price and the bit about it being owned by a young lady does seem to be to good to be true, but if I didn't know her from work I would think so as well.
She bought it new and I think has found that she does not do enough driving for what it was designed for.
I am used to a very loud car, and the little suzi was flat out at 100k's and hour, so if I have to put ear plugs in like I had to coming over the nullabour then I will.
Have got onto the jeep forum site in the US and have had a look at what some of the boys over there have done.
I will not be doing much for a couple of years yet in modifications, but might get a gas conversion done.
Thanks for your comments, and I would like to hear from anyone who has done a gas conversion.

It's rare to find a gas conversion because there is nowhere to put the tank unless you remove the factory tank or rear seat.
cheers

Bought it.
Love it already.
Was looking at all the other 4wd's around the joint and none of them have the character of a jeep. (Except my little suzi)
Have had it off road on an unkept access railway road and didn't need to get out of 2wd.
It's great to put the right boot down and feel some power.
May be old technology but it will sound great when I upgrade the exhaust system.
Hope to get it on some sand in May/June at Streaky Bay.
Heading down from Tom Price to Exmouth then through to Laverton and then onto Adelaide via Streaky Bay.
Should be a good shake down cruise.
