its less restricting. go into autobarn or who ever sells them near u and get them to show you. i have never seen any evidence that they clean any less

Opened my eyes thats for sure.
You wont get better filtration and airflow than genuine Toyota, IMO.
Also in my experience messing about with cam profiles/timing doesnt really work on these diesels.
You really cant beat forced induction for bang-for-your-buck. You can spend $700 to $1000 on a schmick exhaust and extractors and you are flat out gaining 10%, if that, and you have spent almost a third of the price of a new turbo kit (if you fit it yourself) including exhaust, that will give you at least 30 to 35% increase.
My 2c for what its worth....

proper tune up, valves, timing, fuel.
As dakar said above turbo is probley best value... if you look around you will probley pick up a good second hand kit for half the price of a new one.

dakar61, that is an interesting read. i think i might have to go get a new filter from holden tomoro
Hi dustbuster, I strongly recommend a 3" mandrel bent vortex Tiapan XP system and go for the turbo. I had the guys down here at Taipan XP Burleigh Heads fit both to my 100 series and made a massive difference to both power and performance. Depends on how long you are going to keep your car for will warrant how much you spend. Kerry and the guys down there are awsome to talk to and are extremely professional about there business.

How much are you looking to spend dustbuster. I would have to agree with dakar61. Turbo is great bang for buck. There are plenty of people on this forum who have gone with diesel/gas & love it. It is pricey though. I am hoping to put diesel/gas on my rig when I have the money.

I changed the inlet pipework from the Snorkel to the airbox on our 105 and it's made a huge difference. It does however already have a turbo and intercooler, but the difference $60 worth of bits and 3hrs work is amazing.
Have also replaced the factory exhaust with 3" straight through. Made a big difference too... however it's mostly letting the turbo work better rather than what your after.
Took a few pics etc...

A mate has been playing with his 75 Troopy for a while now. Headers and straight through 2.5". Replaced his inlet manifold with 6 individual pod filters... and has had great results. He's also paired a bit of weight off the old fridge and most of his upgrades have improved performace each time and added 50k's per tank of fuel. Only 1 90L tank.
I did exhaust and snorkel on my 1HZ 80 and they certainly helped.
I'd suggest exhaust but go 3" so if you want to turbo later it'll work better.

What sort or vehicle is it? You may be able to get a performance module which modifies the fuel delivery.

What was the cost of the Taipan/turbo set up, and what turbo do they use?

I changed my oil to "PM Oil". Added a Frantz bypass filter to keep the oil clean, Frantz filter to my fuel line to clean my diesel and a "Unifilter" air filter. It feels like I've got an extra gear.
Keep the crap out of your engine and use the best lubrication, and Bob's your mothers brother.

Sorry about the late response Walras, forgot I commented on this thread. The total cost was around $5600 inc GST. I was given a $600 discount because they wanted my truck for a bit longer to make a template for the exhaust. The turbo used is a denco which made a massive differance and sounds awsome. Very happy with how it was fitted and very professional.:thumb:
