I went to a bithday party last night for the daughter inlaw. While I was there i was talking to one of her relos, during the conversation he asked me about what I get up to on weekends. When I said i like to go 4bing he arked up about how dangerous they were. I tried to explain that they are no more a danger than anyother Vehicle on the road but he just rabbitef on and on then started quoteing ACA. That was about all I could take and told him that if he didn't shut up he would be picking his teeth off the floor he disapeared and avoided me all night. >:(

Another product of misinformed and misinterpreted garble, i love the media and their sensationalism, it turns normal humans into tossers with no idea, i say we all chip in and put a hit on harold scrubby and this problem would then no longer be a problem 8)

By the way Munyuk i congratulate you on your tolerance, a person like that who is not prepared to at least listen to both sides of the story before making a judgement probably wouldn't have lasted that long with me. :-\

Not a good way to get a message across IMO.

Maybe asking him when the last time he saw a truly credible story on ACA or when was the last time they spoke of a community based or fundraiser for a needy cause, other than supporting their own propaganda.

Also could ask him to back up his statements with true facts with quotes from something other than TV.
Last time I looked, TV (and the current affairs programs on commercial station) is a form of entertainment set up to be able to raise money through advertising they sell, not really a place where you would find an unbiased view on anything.

Hang in there buddy. If you can be bothered with this tosser, maybe send him some articles on fund raising, environmental activities, etc, done by 4WD clubs. And maybe toss in a copy of the statistics included in a thread on this forum a while ago.
I too have a relative who is "Dark Green" - I think he bought his filtering earplugs at the same place as your guy - when he gets on a subject there is only one direction - HIS.

Problem is that threatened violence will be what he remembers of you & will also strengthen his view that we are that way inclined.

I am not trying to say that we are the most articulate lot either, but by dropping to his "uneducated & obviously biased level" doesn't solve the problem.
At the recent elections, on my way in to vote, I was ambushed by some of the tree-huggers trying to persuade my vote.
My questions to them were "In what type of dwelling do you live" their response was "a unit"
I then asked "When was the last time you planted a plant which is native to the area?" to which they had no response & I then followed that up with "So you think it is OK to prevent access to our bush to help erradicate it of introduced species of flora & fauna, with reference to the upcoming fox baiting that 4WDNSW is getting involved in" which is where I left the conversation.
It is about creating something for them to think about, rather than letting them be brainwashed by what they are fed & then try to brainwash the rest of the world with the same rubbish.

Yeah BT but, can we at least day-dream about giving the AH a smack in the mouth :P, it kinda clears the air and can prevent the actual event occurring. It's sometimes known as venting.

Reality is, their minds are already made up. Your approach, whilst laudable, is wasted on people with closed minds. You are fighting the good fight but against people that won't make a difference. Besides, you probably have, at least once in your life anyway, (unless you truly are a saint) thought no more of these AH's than as traction aids :o

Work on the hearts and minds of those who aren't already set against anyone or anything that sees the world from a different perspective or don't otherwise value the differences in us all. That way your thoughtfulness may make a difference, and you too can feel good about telling some AH to sod off!!!

I can see it all on CSI as I type young fella. "A disturbed young man today wasted his class mates because they disliked his passion for those evil $WD's. Further investigation revealed that a popular 4WD Forum that he frequented consistently besmirched the good charater of fine, upstanding citizens such a Harold Scruby. But BushTuckerNed, as he was known, went the extra yard by explicitly threatening the general populace, "so many arseholes, so few bullets" was his signature on all posts. Combined with his obvious anti-social behaviour, self evident from his affiliation with the 4WD fraternity and his choice of avatar, he also closely associated himself not only with those evil 4 Wheelers but also with Ned Kelly, the infamous police killer...", you get the point ;)

i think i would have smacked him in the chops too....... ya get sick of fools like that..... trying to convince them that we are usually very nice folk who only kill on the full moon...... sometimes it would be nice to just smack them in the gob....... and walk away smiling as they try to find their teeth on the floor.

My reason for my approach is that they were obviously of unsound mind enough to be moulded by an inanimate object (TV) in the first place, so with a little persuasion, they might see reality.
As for traction aids, that is a good one, I normally think fertilizer, but traction aid is something I will have to think about.
I have had the rare occassion where I have had to ask a person to PO, but generally it is due to them just annoying me, not because of a disagreement (they usually tell me ;D) I tend to not let it get physical & when I see it heading in that direction, rather than push it over the edge, I usually prefer to walk away, knowing that there is little I can do to change their opinion (just like some of the arguments I have with my wife, as we are both strong minded & when we differ, we know the other will not sway, so we accept that the opinion of the other will not change & leave it alone).
Venting is something we all do & we all do it in different ways.
