I found a 31x10.5x15 AT tire in the shed while looking for something...its the spare off the lux from when we were running 31" duelers on it...waiting to get a 30x9.5 tire fitted to it as a spare for the lux....
I had been looking for something to drown one of the rodeos tire in to see if i could find where the leak was...but the 31" gave me an idea... :P
I present..... a 2wd Rodeo on 31x10.5x15" tires ;D

it fits...im impressed!
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/clearance_no_lift.jpg
clearance without any wind up on the torsion bars
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/no_cutting_required.jpg
I dont even need to do a gonzo and cut anything!
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/40mm_wind_up.jpg
with a jack created 40mm torsion bar wind up
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/Full_compression.jpg
this is under full compression-jacked up opposite rear wheel till front lifted up on drivers side
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/Size_difference.jpg
185R14C-->31x10.5x15....Significant difference!
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/might_need_flairs.jpg
i think i might need flairs for these things!
we got that tire and rim for $30 from a wrecker....so if i get another 3 of em for $90...i could be running around full time with 31" tires on the deo...tho i think it might need a regearing afterwards :-[

If they fit, keep them on. When i put 31's on the old mans paj, the handling wat 50% better, even though the speed was down 4 or 5 k's. It looks heaps better ;D

Yeh go for a bit of a night drive now with em on

unfortunately, going from a 185R14 to a 205R16 made the speedo 10kph out already, so 31x10.5s are gonna be worse- plus i only have one :-[

wish the lux was still here so i could steal all its tires to see how the deo goes with 30x9.5s on it ;D
Gonna see if a 31 will fit under the tray after lunch ;)

well, having done the tire on the front end, i was happy enough bout that...then i got bored again, and since its been raining on and off all day, its not the day to be stuck down the bottom of a 2km long driveway on a ride on that does 8kph flat chat when a downpour comes in again... so i put the tire on the rear too :D
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/rear_31.jpg
It fits, bout an inch between the rail on the side and the sidewall tho!
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/Just_clears!.jpg
clears the guards without too much difficulty, tho its about an inch wider than them! :(
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/Few_inches_clear.jpg
theres only a few inches of clearance between the ribs on the tray and the tire on the level- you can see the rib i bent with the 205R16 earlier when she flexed up
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/40mm_lift.jpg
this is with another jack induced 40mm lift- the canopy has been removed to allow me to see what im about to reverse into!
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/40mm_front_and_back.jpg
Leveled up the front and rear with jacks and stands- definately gets everything a lot further off the ground now- tho id have to do a ball joint flip- the fronts almost on the bumpstops :(
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/more_diff_clearance.jpg
i gain about 3" of diff clearance with these new tires! :D
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/Touches.jpg
it touches on compression- i have two options, lift the tray off the chassis, or a suspension lift- which is difficult due to spring under
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/not_full_compression.jpg
not even at full rear compression yet :(
http://www.apache.airnet.com.au/~rruedige/31's_on_deo/UHF_Phone_MP3.jpg
While im at it, the new UHF has been installed in the usual Rodeo location...still havent made brackets for it yet
if i want to run these full time, like people have been egging me on to do so (gonzo wants me to run 31x10.5 Motorway Mongrels! ) im going to have to do a few things- ball joint flip and 40mm lift on the front and lift the rear suspension by 40mm- i know how to do that with a Sprung over, you just use blocks...but how do you 40mm lift a sprung UNDER vehicle? :?:

Why dont you buy a 4WD instead of wasting your money trying to make a 2WD something its not
ferremit
03-11-2004, 11:41 AM
cos i am buying a 4wd, its in the driveway at the moment, dualcab 2.8D hilux ;D its just that part of the deal involves the rodeo becoming a farm ute, and as it stands at the moment, i would be scared to take it off the track, cos its tires suck and theres no clearance, so im trying to find a way of more traction and clearance for cheap- which is as simple as 205R16 tires from a 2nd hand tyre joint on the old split rims from the lux... wind the torsion bars up 1/2 an inch to prevent any rubbing and go from there
