i am moving to darwin (from sydney) at the end of the year and want to take full advantage of all the open space u there and just get out and see things that normal people in street cars cant see.
and was looing at the TJ for the ablity it has and the looks but the one down side i can see (and it is a big down size for the price) is the fuel consuption i will be going from a little 1.6 toyota to a 4.0L straight 6
Just wondering what is everyone average fuel economy is for 100km???
services and bits and pieces
everything else about them are awesome from what i have read and seen

Am also looking at suzuki grand Vitara 2000 onward 3dr 2.0L V4 but i dont think it can do as much as a TJ with out mayor fit out to the suzuki
What does everyone think???

oh and i wont be going to crazy with the TJ dont want to climb massive rock walls just something with a little lift n a little more rubber

tj - fuel economy - stock with std tyres 6spd - 10 to 14 l per 100k
auto - 12-15l per 100k
Add 2 in lift and bigger tyres - add 30 %
If your worried about fuel - forget the Jeep
if you worried about go the suz

Mate, a TJ with just a lift and better offroad tyres will get you just about anywhere.

Fuel and parts - well mate - the easiest way to say this is... bloody expensive. Parts are expensive in a major capital and even worse away from the cities.

Fuel really depends on how hard you drive it.

But all the fun in the beasts makes all the negatives well worth it.

Parts aren't that expensive. You'll find toyota just as or more expensive for most parts. I get about 13.5-15.5 L/100klm. There's nothing like driving a topless wrangler ;)
