had the fan & belts off last night & thought i would check the timing belt at the same time.

it seemed very loose to me. i am guessing that when the motor was last turned off it rocked back a bit & put the slack on the drive side of the belt.

the motor runs well & seems to pull ok to me.

i pulled the tensioner off & checked it, seemed fine.

checked the belt, o.k.

reassembled & tensioned the belt. havent run yet but all seems ok.

anyone else seen a belt this loose before.??????

yep that can happen with a floating tensioner when the engine bounces back off compression.

If the tensioner is pivoting freely on the pivot bolt and the sliding surface is nice and true it should be all ok.
