Guess what I just bought.............

A Trailer 8)

I always wanted a box trailer, and now I got one....

Time to start spending money...New alloy rims & All Terrains, new checker plate guards, checker plate toolbox, sandblast and a 2 pac paint job.... 8)

This thing is amazing.....it has a tip tray, with a built in exhaust jack bladder to raize it, and it also has trailer brakes fitted...and so it should :o

The bloody thing is that heavy being on a total solid chassis, you can't lift it without the wheel jack!

Woo Hoo ;D

Might not look much now, but give me a month or 2..... ::)

No to rain on your parade why didn't ya just buy a new one if your gunna spend all that money on it. I mean a sand-blast and powdercote will set u back $500. (I have been told powercote is better than paint by a paint supplier)

Yeah 8)

I know it doesn't look all that flash at the moment as it's absolutely filthy from where we had it today, looks just like my truck at the moment....considering that I had to be winched out of a bighole with the trailer in tow, it doesn't look too bad...

Just to think, I spent the day yesterday washing and polishing it...not to forget armouralling the tyres as well >:(

Bloody waste of time ::)

Oh well, out with the Karcher again tomorrow ::)

The picture doesn't do it justice...I'll have to scrape the dust and dirt from the sidesteps in the morning.

I just went outside, and took the picture in absolute darkness...

Turned out Ok though 8)

Geez, that's terrible mate :(

We used the Tirfer my mate had in his truck. Bloody hard work that >:(

I would lend you mine if I had one, but mine is only one of those cheapies which you buy for emergencies from K-Mart.

I havent used it yet, though I wouldn't bet my life on one of those things...

Don't ya just love new toys 8)

I spent the morning with the Karcher, I am absolutely filthy from the dirty water spray.....

I have learnt a lot about this thing, you remove the back pins and the whole top comes streight off 8)

If you have half a dozen people to help you lift it that is.... :'(

Still not sure about what colour it's gunna be yet..

Wilesy
25-10-2004, 12:01 PM
Yeah,

This stuff keeps us out of trouble eh.... Gotta spend your money quick, before the wifey does ::)

Did you notice all of the squiggly marks up the side of the trailer now .... :o

Got a bit carried away with the Karcher with the heavy spray pattern >:(

I should have used the blue exhaust jack to lift the tray!

Nearly gave myself a hernia >:(

I'm sure the thing is made from solid lead! I am no weakling I can tell you, but this thing is just unbelievably heavy!

Now I’m ticked though…I just put a set of brand new BFG’s on my truck last week, and I could have kept the old ones for the trailer..Grrrr

25-10-2004, 11:14 PM
And where are your new BFG's made PW, USA??

Wilesy
26-10-2004, 02:17 AM
That was the first thing I checked.

They are made in the U.S

From reports in which I have read (not sure if it's correct though) is that they always continued to build the 285/75R16's in the USA.

For what ever reason, I have no idea.

The trouble with the Asian built tyres were and only effected a particular size, and from memory they were 265/70R16's.

Do off road tyres make much difference on a trailer. I imagine it only can stop the trailer going side to side. Is this correct? Also when braking mayb

I always wanted a box trailer too!!
That was a couple of years ago. I convinced the Mrs that it was a must have item for our w'ends away. Just a simple box trailer ::)
........then the mods started ;D
First thing to get was GXL rims(new hubs) and some suitable tyres, followed by Galvo dipping, then came the tool box and pneumatic jockey wheel.
I then stuck a 80L water tank under it followed by a water pump and tap. Had this set up for about a year before I went with a Customline Camper to bolt on top.
I then set up a battery box and charging system from my 4b. Plus some 12v sockets for extra lights. The mods are still happening.........new suspension to come shortly.
So just a word of warning Wilsey, These bloody box trailers can take some work to get them really GOOD LOOKING ;D 8)

man I got a bargain then. I bought 1 off Gidget the other day for $100, even got a water tank under neath it. fair size thing to it must be about 8x5 I think , not the prettiest thing but it'll do the job.
the exhaust jack bit looks good Peter. will make going to the dump impressive.

I am getting somewhere now :D

The day I picked it up.....

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/Stuff/abw.sized.jpg

And this is what it looked like yesterday…....

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/Stuff/acu.sized.jpg

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/Stuff/acv.sized.jpg

And now today :D

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/Stuff/acw.sized.jpg

Now, I'm cooking with Gas....I have the hubs now converted to 6 stud to fit my brand new sunrasias & tyres, put in all new bearings today and then the body goes in next week to have it cut down the centre and added another 18 inches to it making it a 5½ x7 foot tray.

Then all of the checker plate will be done and then adding the locking toolbox's on the side, and the new guards, lights, new springs etc, etc.....

I will also be putting the springs under the axle because it's a bit too high now, and when the new wheels and tyres go on you will need a ladder to use it...

Then the sandblasting and then the paint shop Woo Hoo 8)

Then, and only then it'll look like MY trailer 8)

13-01-2005, 02:19 PM

hey wilesy, not to put a downer on your project, but you should do all your mods on your trailer first (sit it down draw yourself a plan of what you want and what you might want in the future)as i had to grind the paint back to add a few extra things(X2) and every time you want to add,out comes the welder and grinder, bloody hard to try and match up the paint, but thats my two bob,by the way thats going to be one sexy trailer when finished :P

Only a couple,

I have the springs off at the moment, and as soon as my mate can do it, the tray will be off to his place for the weld & cut. 8)

Looks like I won't be doing a spring under by the look of the size of the tyres, as the top will serve as part of the guards.

Oh well, I might just get a bit highter goose neck for the tow bar..........I also have to give it a good scrub to get rid of all of that bull dust. >:(

Nah,

Not at the moment....

The guy who is doing all of the work for me is in New Zealand for a month on Holidays :-\

The guy is a mate who really knows his stuff, and he wouldn't accept any money for doing any of the work for me, so I gave him a brand new Husky Chainsaw with a 19" blade so I wouldn't feel obliged. The guy is thrilled 8)
