off to town

we're off to town tonight ( Alice) for the weekend..
but theres no accomodation in town cause of the masters games, so we gotta swag it ( woohoo ;D ) instead..
probably camp down by the finke river tonight, then head into town tomorrow, do the shoppin and camp at rainbow valley tomorrow night..

Met a few of them at Coober Pedy 2 weeks ago heading north. Understand there are about 4,000 in the Alice.

Love the swag as its so versatile but need creature comforts from time to time..

After I piked out on the Boggy Hole track pitched camp at Lassiters Casino in the Alice and did the washing etc.

yeah it ended up 4500 all together, and they spent heaps in town too, really good for the place ;D

we stay at lasseters occaisonaly as well mate, it's a bloody great place, and serena gets NT government rate, so it's bloody really good ( includes the buffet brekky too ;D ;D ) although all hotels up here give ya NT rate if ya live here ;D ;D ;D

the new swags are great.. nothin wrong with single swags.. it's just for overnighters, and neither of us get woken up for bloody dunny breaks ;D ;D ;D


we always need accom in alice when we go, cause we have to do all our shopping etc, so we need somewhere to stash it.. although now im goin back to the camel farm we can stay in the donga on the boss's property about 5km's out of alice, save us heaps..

The single swag was awesome, but warm it was not!!!

We've got the swags that you can have the canvas over, or just the net [troppo swag] Al had his canvas mostly over his and i just had the net so I could see the stars.

and it was awesome , however, a southerly wind picked up about 3am and it suddenly turned very very cold and was howling wind..I had a little blanket just because I always get hot so it was no protection from the elements at all... At 4am I tried to subtly wake Al by coughing etc, no avail..then at 5:30 I was so frickin cold I shouted "AL GET UP!!!!!!" and we were gone by 5:40am..lmao..bloody hell it was freezing!

Hey Richard, I 'm big on comfort too, love the swag but mine has an airbed, there is no way in hell I could just sleep on one of those swag mattresses. And it now has a new sleeping bag cause I went straight in and bought one after freezing all night..lol..but prob a dumb thing to do cause I got rid of my last one cause I never used it, too hot!

Still loved the single swag, I got up at 4:30am and had a look around and Al was sleeping away, I normally wake him up when we're in the tent together, as I always wander around at 4 or 5am.

Mate, because I was in such a hurry to get to bed that I didn't take the time to work out how to put the canvas bit up so I needed Al to do it for me, and I didn't put anything warmer up because Al had the keys to the ute in his swag! bastage!

yer, our single ones with all of the bedding crap in are quite bulky but they are really light, I could easily carry it. When we got up the other morning I rolled mine up and it was really neat and tidy and compact, and Al rolled his and it ended up twice the size of mine with bits hanging out everywhere. LMFAO. WE had to leave them on the back of the ute all day while we were shopping in Alice and Al was worried about them getting stolen, and I was taking the piss out of him saying no one would steal his because a] it looked too daggy and b] they'd be taking their life into their hands trying to wrestle that humungous thing to the ground..haha
