This morning my missus went for a walk and noticed that my 4b had been broken into overnight. The Disco is park mere metres from our bedroom windown and the driver's door is prone to get jammed and needs quite a tug to get it open. They took my JVC ipod car stereo ($329) and my Navman S50 ($410) which my missus got me for Christmas (she was saving for ages for it and is very upset). I understand the people who took these things needs the money more than me, but it's not only the financial loss, its's the fact that someone entered our property overnight and violated our space. They didn't get my Uniden cb or my ipod itself (which was strangely connected to the stereo and hidden under the seat). Needless to say these other things are now coming inside. I am more upset that I cannot leave these things in my 4b so they can serve the means for which they were designed. BASTARDS!

Haha, yeah bowled 11 overs straight yesterdee so bit buggered. Stereo and remote GONE, Navman GONE! I'm getting more pi*&ed off about this as the day wears on. At least they didn't steal my 4b (although reckon I'd def wake trying to start V8 with 3inch exhaust) and I've still got me health.

Yep, definately a bad idea leaving a navman in a car unattended!!
If you replace it NEVER leave it in the car (or at least hide it in glovebox) even if just going to a shopping centre for half hour. They are too commonly stolen.

I've had several of my vehicles broken into over the years, as well as my wives car. Stole everything from competition pool cues, leather jackets... a roll of paper towel on one occasion.
The only way to avoid it is not leave absolutely nothing visible inside the car - even a few coins. Always remove your stereo face plate, coins, clothes (for some reason people think covering valuables with a jumper or jacket makes them invisible...) For desperate buggers, they'll try for anything.
And if you do catch them in the act - let them run. Nothing is worth being stabbed over (I've also been held up at knife point at an old job.)
Discourage them and give them no reason to harm you, your family or your car.

Thats a shame mate, i've had people have a go at my patrol in my own garden too. I never leave any valuables in there tho. They musta been tryin to steal the car itself unless for some reason they wanted the $10 am cb...
I have to disagree with you when you say they probably needed the money more than you, because i seriously doubt they would need it for anything more than fuelling a drug addiction.
Just remember to take all the bracket out as well, the bastards know where there are brackets or mounts , there are the electronics that go in them......

Sorry to hear chilli.
Had a customer reasently that had their window broken and a bag stolen from the front seat, the lucky bastard's made off with a bag of wet beach towels. The window on the other hand cost $800 to replace.
I see it all to often sat nav's getting pinched from cars, dont even leave the bracket it is enough to have them break a window looking for the unit, easy money at cash converters.

Too true, its my own fault, especially when living in the inner Melbourne suburbs. I'm originally from the country (been in Melb 5 years for work) we left everything in plain sight and unlocked in the Otways. Lesson learnt.

Yeah I know mate, at least they didn't break the window (they're electric too so that would have been a bugger). Gives me a reason to upgrade with a 8 inch monitor and oziexplorer etc (when I get the money). Can't beleieve the thief was stupid enough to miss my uniden uhf, that would have been easier to steal than the stereo! They also pulled out the wires from the back of the stereo which were connected to a $300 ipod. I was lucky I suppose.

I had my cruiser broken into a while back during a storm. She was parked under our bedroom window which is always locked open.My wife heard the b_____d break the 1/4 window and scared the shit out of them. Funny thing tho, the idiots didnt have enough brains to check the door cos if they did, they would have found the truck unlocked. Luckily nothing got took. The alarm is now mounted inside the truck as under the bonnet doesn't seem to phaze them

I've had my juke box knocked twice over the years 1st one he/she was gracious enough to do the job properly unbolted it nicely and even took the tape out and put in its case for us. 2nd time the PR**KS smashed the dash wrecked everything getting it out including the door lock cleaned the car out of everything they could emptied the ashtray everywhere and decided to leave us a momento, a coughed up hookie on the console. The police were there as they did 5 cars that night and they done their best to calm me down as I was going balistic. If they are going to be A**HOLES AND steal what is not theirs WHY would they destroy everything and leave a little present on the console like that I just cant understand people doing that. I also lost my trailer 7 years ago had just finished restoring it was like brand new with overhead racks new everything took it from inside the gate     boy was I p****d off. Thanks mate only myself to blame really leaving it in the car, stupid:crazy:. I just moved house recently and left some stuff in the laundry out the back for one night. Went to collect the rest of it the next day and some prick walked around the back into the laundry and knocked of my generator. There was a for lease sign out the front of the house and no cars in the driveway but still...

Sounds just like my story. Lost the same stuff cd player, gps and heaps more. They cut out my back window with a stanley knife and stole that to. I installed a FM car alarm so it wont happen again. But just like you the most disappointing part is you save for ages for these items and then cant leave them in your car where they belong for fear of theft.

Not to take away any of the badness about what happens with theft of personal items by those oxygen thieves, but wouldn't "saving for ages" be better off going to the alarm system first, than the expensive toys?

i had some dick cheese break into my old run about. the must have been as thick as pig shit though. the car is crap, an 80's telstar with paint peeling off etc. also the car can be opened via the lock using a variety of objects (bark chip, 5c coin, ANY key even if it doesnt fit in the hole, folded up paper - yes ive tried all these) and yet he decided to massacre the door handle. the car had been broken into years befor and the sound4 tape deck stolen and i didnt replace it so he just pulled the wires completely out, sort of as if he thought it were hiding at the back of my console. emptied the contents of the glove box onto my seat, the only thing of value was some DKNY sunnies i got for chrissy but he either missed them of didnt like the look - i dunno but they were there. however i did get 2 things stolen, a deck of RALPH cards, and an expired free mars bar wrapper. some people are just scum.

Yeah, the nerve of some people... A couple of easters ago, I was stupid enough to get my 4by and trailer washed up on the rocks at Rainbow Beach. Gettin late, so I grabbed what I could (pretty much just a floating esky) and went home. Returned the next day after 2 high tides and the pricks had taken anything they could... spotties, fishing rods, fridge, battery, high lift jack (padlocked by the way!!)... only consolation is that half the gear woulda been stuffed anyway! Talk about kicking a bloke when he's down!!!

My brother was at work in a shopping centre and he had his car broken into, they must have taken their time doing it as they broke the passenger side window, then poped the hatch from inside. they proceded to unbolt the sub box and amp from the back, there is no way they would have just lucked into finding this they must ahve checked it out first, as it needed 2 different size spanners to get it out, it took us over an hour to get it in so would ahve taken them nearly an hour to get it out. funny bit was, he had blown the sub and the box it was in had a crack in it, only uslefull bit they got was the amp. left everything else in the car though, including the $2000 alpine headunit, the digital cammera and the portable minidisc player. and this was in broad daylight in a well used shopping centre, so people must have seen it happening.
one guy i met up in toowoomba has the right idea, he has his alarm hooked up to 10 Piezar (i think thats how they are spelt) tweeters mounted through out the car. no one is going to be in that car more then a few seconds witht the alarm going with out their ears bleeding.

Good Friday night, some little sh*t broke into my Maverick. Well, not really broke in, cause I left it unlocked, in my car port, right next to my bedroom.
Best bit is, the door hinges were really dry and squeaky, so my two red heeler x dingo pups started going berserk. That woke the missus up, so she woke me up. We both jumped outside and saw the little bastard trying to sneak away. The missus raced back inside and called the cops, and I tried to grab him but he bolted.
The coppers turned up about 10 minutes later, and we gave them a description. The coppers drove up the road a bit, then switched off the car, and listened to hear if any dogs were barking. by doing this, they caught the little sh*ts about 30 minutes later.
The only things they knocked off from the wagon were 3 packs of tobacco and a pack of smokes, and luckily for me the coppers found them on the bastards. Took me 3 weeks to get them back though...
But the audacity of these little bastards was amazing. They apparently broke in to over 30 cars within 4 blocks, and after nearly being collared by me, the coppers caught them breaking in to more cars!

That is why we call Cash Converters CRIME CONVERTERS ;)
Seriously though, that is the first place I tell people to have a look at when they have their stuff stolen. The NAVMANS are the no.1 on crook's shopping list at the moment so don't leave them in view.
Eventually all the serial numbers of items sold to 2nd hand stores gets uploaded into the police computer and if any are matched a file is generated and they go hunting.
I can't stress enough the importance of copying down all the serial numbers of your items.

Yeah thanks for that mate, neither can I. But that's the type of world we live in unfortunately hey. It's pretty disgraceful when you can't have the things yu bought for your fourby in your fourby, it's just a bugger carting everything back and forward from the car into the house, topo gps, street mapper, stereo face plate, ipod, mob phone, wallet, keys well I gues two trips back and forth are better than having them knocked off. We are thinking about moving into the country at the end of this year as we have had enough of Melbourne and alot of my work is in the far eastern suburbs anyway, I wonder if my stuff will be safer in the country? My Uncle lives in Gellibrand in VIC and still doesn't lock the back door.

Yep that's fair enough. Funny thing is water got into the alarm and it started going off at random. I didn't have time to look at it properly so I disconnected it a month or so before the car got rolled. Ah well.
