What pressure should I be running the tyres on my Wrangler for on the road?

If you drop the pressure for off-road do you go for different pressures depending on the surface, for corrugations, sand etc?

What size and type of tyres are they?

I have Bridgestone RD604 tyres, the size (i think - I am mechanically inept!) is 10R15LT (does that mean anything?).

Try using the SEARCH function and you will find lots of info on just this question! Basically there is absolutely NO POINT in asking that question unless you provide tyre make, & size, vehicle make, model, loaded condition and a whole heap more!

EVEN THEN, what's good for YOU driving that vehicle in that condition with those tyres on that day over those roads isn't gonna be any thing good for anyone else - it's still gonna be only right FOR YOU, anyone else's pressures are gonna be at best a fairly vague guide!

Get the Cooper Discoverer 4WD Driver's Guide and read up about the 4psi rule - it WILL work for you, and it will work on and off road - just use the indicated OFF road pressures as a guide to start pressures and using the 4psi rule take it from there! You will see from that guide that you will need to drop pressures and use different start pressures for different surfaces (and ambient daily temps, load, etc!)

And like I said initially, if you use the SEARCH function, up the top right hand side of the screen just under your username, you can even put in the whole phrase, but you will get more info than you can read, generally saying the same sort of thing! Tyre pressures are very much dependant upon YOUR driving, your vehicle, your tyres, and where you are driving. No-one else can accurately answer all those questions about what YOU do, so they can only give you a best guess that may be quite wrong FOR YOU!

Good Luck!

I thought I had included the vehicle make/model and after jeepinbastard's prompt I have added the tyre make and size.

What I am after is a bit of advice of tyre pressure for on road use as these weren't factory fitted tyres, do I go on what the handbook recomends?

And my other question was more for a guide than specific psi.

I thought the idea of the forum was so that the less experienced (me, I have only had my jeep just over 3 weeks!) could ask advise of those with greater knowledge!

Thanks for pointing out the search facility.

mate jump on ausjeepoffroad.com for help with jeeps you will find plenty of info there.

On the tyre infront of the 10R15LT / its probably 31 going off your pics, when i used to run 31s to give you a bit of an idea i used about 35-38ish on the street, and offroad in 99% of conditions id start at about 15-16 and go down from there depending on how the tyre is performing for you.

As i said jump on ausjeep and have a search around chances are someones running a very similar rig to yours and can give you a decent idea.

All the best with your jeep, they are a great fun vehicle cheap to modify and you wont be dissapointed off road.

the tyre makes a huge difference as too what you run

having the hardtop vs softtop on as well (weight difference)

more aggressive tyres stt, mongrels etc run at about 32-34 psi on road
drop to 12-20psi off road

ATR's can run as high as 38 psi and drop only to 16 psi when running on sand

it can be trial and error to get which one is right for your rig

suspension setup can also have a major impact particularly if you have adjustable suspension
