Gday all,

my mate has a 1999 Grand Cherokee. The rear of the front tail shaft has a rubber boot around the uni joint. The rubber boot continues to break and costs him alot of money every two months to get it fixed. It is stock, no lift and has never been off road. After inspecting some others on the road some actually have no rubber boot at all on the rear but the front only. If he left the boot off, will this damage the joint? And if it will, does anybody know why or have the same problem? Is the tailshaft maybe bent?

Thanks for your help

I checked my 01 WJ and it has boots for the front shaft only. i think it wont ruin your uni joints without the boots since they are sealed. The previous owner must have thought installing boots on the rear shaft was an added protection for the uni joints.

If he wants a stronger shaft on the later model WJ 04 I think has the double cardin joint and no boot much stronger, thats what I have in mine.
