was a very fun weekend except for the loooong waits between tracks and recoverys etc.

Its funny how your driving style changes when theres only one shot at each obstacle , next year if i get to compete again i think i will upgrade to some thing different from my 31" retread muddies ;D

the weather and every thing was perfect and the crowd was great , didn't come accross to many ( i could do better than that but i couldn't be bothered types) but i did meet a few.

all in all i couldn't have asked for a better 1st competion to compete in

cheers to the nissian club for putting it on (just find a real recovery team next year ;D) and be good if there was some more crawling type stages too but hey its your comp, cheers jai

Have to agree with Rogue; loooong waits between events (some confusion meant we waited four and a half hours to do our first event) and the recoveries added to the delays.

Everyone is an expert afterwards, and while I don't like to be critical of the TLCC guys (they volunteer to do a job others won't touch), there were situations where recovery vehicles perhaps could have been better placed, and a little more urgency shown. I know they assess situations carefully (safety first of course), but I watched a couple of recoveries that were, to be honest, ballsed up.

Again there would have been less recoveries if some of the courses were more sporting (the Open/Outlaw wombat holes course for example: most tipped over in the second hole). But the crowds love that action, so do some competitors, but others don't think it's fair on driver or vehicle to present something that is virtually impossible.

I competed as a navi and the marshalls and officials were all great with us, no complaints there. We also had no issues personally with recoveries.

I'd love to drive it ;D

BTW, I must have been right next to Humpy when he snapped the white 80 in the water!

Humpy

Does the navvie actually do anything?

I saw a few giving the driver distances to obstacles on his left but most just sat there as a passenger

I think the event would be better for both spectators and competitiors if you were allowed more than 1 attempt and could have the navvie giving directions from outside the car

et4runner, you would have been standing next to my dad when that photo was taken, I was over near the backhoe

08-11-2004, 10:41 PM
a bit too hard core i reckon

Not if we can help it ;D I walked the tracks with my driver the Friday, we discussed lines etc, and formed plans and strategies, then threw them out the window on the weekend! But seriously, I let my pilot go for it, with occasional hand signals or direction calls, and lots of encouragement.

I saw a few giving the driver distances to obstacles on his left but most just sat there as a passenger

Thats the whole idea.... ;)

Probably right, but then it would take longer to run. I think they got the 'back & fills' about right. Me being out of the car wouldn't have made too much difference.

I think in some cases it would have taken longer, but if you could pick a better line more trucks would get through, and the recovery time would be less.

A good navie giving directions would have saved numerous rolls in the wombat holes
