I would like to install some reversing lights to my 2006 hilux, was thinking of making a putting a 40mm frame behind the numberplate and mounting the lights to it, as i always turn up to camping spots to late! has anyone done this or knows of someone who has? Is it aloud/legal. Should it be connected thru the reversing lights or just hard wired with switch. Help please.

Cheers:truck:

I have a single round Narva 100W on the back of my hilux. I have it wired into my reversing lights. As far as legality goes, it all depends what state you're in. In queensland I think its a bit like having roof mounted spotties. If you have them covered and wired with an on/off switch (apart from high beam) you shouldn't have any problems.

Hi toohey23. On my Hilux I mounted two small Hella rectangular lights [each about 75mm wide and 50mm high]. They fitted between the Hayman Reece towbar and the lower body panel. One each side of the towing toungue. Low wattage but don't remember now [don't own the car anymore]. Wired in to the factory reversing lights. No cabin switch. Gave off a pretty good light spread for bush night time reversing or without upsetting authorites or other motorists when night time shopping. In this location they were well protected and never got damaged. Vibration didn't hurt them either.

if you wire them up using a relay and a switch, then you are pretty well covered....the relay and switch also means that you are not putting too much load on the existing reversing light wiring....

They sould be wired up via the reversing light circuit. If you use a 3 way switch you can have them off, reversing, and maually on for the campsite.
I've used a Hella Tractor work light. 2 x 55W bulbs and a lense that spreads the light really wide. Great for lighting a campsite and reversing.
