hey guys, i have a 94 4 runner with the 2.8D engine running 31's at the moment. i am wanting to run 33's but a little bit concerned about the power loss. has anyone or is anyone running 33's with a N/A 2.8D. i was thinking about strapping a turbo on the side to compensate for the power loss but its a big expense just to run bigger rubber.
any info or suggestions would be great.
CHEERS GUYS!!!

I had 32's in my old truck and that was a 2.4, didn't seem to lose any power (noticeably). There's plenty of 2.8's getting around with 33's, so I'm sure it isn't that much of a drama.
look at changing your diff ratios before you think about a Turbo, it'll be the cheaper way out.

Have a looksee at the plate on your firewall. Look at the Trans/Axle code then shoot over to this website and decode it Toyota Differential Identification - Toyota at Off-Road.com (http://toyota.off-road.com/toyota/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=274535)
As for which ratio is best - not my strong point. But I really don't think it will be so much of a drama. If it is viable to do so, keep th original tyres just in case you want to swap back, run around for a week on the 33's and see if you like it.
Just watch your speedo, because it will be inaccurate. Will probably read about 10% out. (reads 100km/h and really doing 110km/h.)
Also, may need a body lift to clear the rubber in the guards. have 33x10.5 (not the usual 12.5" wide) and the 2" body lift is good. With only minor scrubbing at full rear flex and at the front when tucked up and turning. No damage done though. And on a Gen1 Runner (IFS).

mate i had 33x12.5 put on my 2.8 about 2hrs before i got my turbo put on. all i can say is wat a slow peice of s#*t alot better with turbo. can sit on 120km no worries oh yeh i have 3" sus lift and 2" body to clear 33's. and my speedo is around 10-12% out so when doing 100km it reads 90km on speedo

Do a ratio cange before a turbo it gives a better crawl offroad and also gives you back the torque on road it will still be slow but ratios are better IMO.

Your axle code will probably be G285, if so diff ratio is 4.3, so anything higher (4.556 or 4.88) would help running 33s.
If you are looking at changing ratios, check out Differential parts and accessories | Ring & Pinions | J.T.'s Parts and Accessories (http://www.ringpinion.biz) for prices.
