my 100 series 1hz is low on power and is using more fuel than usual. i have replaced the fuel and air filters and ive ran a fuel conditioner bottle through it. im thinkinh maybe it might be the injectors. it has 160000kms on it. it is standard engine wise but im planning on turboing it soon. the only other weird thing is soot fibres coming out the exhaust. any advice would be appreciated.
cheers

Sounds like your exhaust might be struggling.. look into getting a more effecient system fitted.. probably full of soot etc!

gday. mate get your injectors and pump checked.the loss of power may be the injectors arnt firing a fine spray, instead a jet off fuel, which is harder to burn, soot from rear. the pump settings may have changed. could also be as simple as a blocked exhaust. my 1hz has 475000 ks and is still goin strong.

We find that the series two 1HZ injectors have a fairly low service life compared to the earlier type. 160,000kms is over what we normally see them at for work, so a look at them is a good idea. The standard exhaust on the 1HZ 100 series is a P.O.S! Worth a look at a set of extractors & full system. (thats if you are not planning to turbo it in the near future) You didnt say whether yours was the EGR engine or not. If it is, a fault in the EGR system could also give you the same symptoms.
BTW one of our clients had us fit a turbo to their 100 a month after they had a performance exhaust fitted. If you interested in it PM me and I will put you in touch with them.

thanks for the advice guys. how do i know if my engine is a egr type? it is a 2002 105 series if that helps? is it cheaper to buy new injectors or get the old ones rebuilt? i have had a quote to rebuild them and its like $900. seems like a lot to me.

I`m pretty sure the EGR engines started in 2003 and ironically they have injector nozzles that are cheaper to renew than yours. (they are not interchangeable with yorus, sorry)
Last time I checked, new genuine Toyota injectors for your model were about $370 each, so rebuilding the old ones is really the only way to go.
$900 sounds about right if that includes remove & refit, timing check & fuel filter renewed.

HAve you checked your tappets, I purchased my 1HZ 80 with 300,000 on the clock and in the same position as your self took the vehicle to a diesel mob in SA cost me a fortune as they did injectors and dyno tuned it. Fuel economy the same, power 1-2 kw higher and as the engine wasn't smokey no real improvement in unburnt fuel load. still only had 23kw at rear wheels. Did Tappets 6months later, most were almost closed up effect was brillant worth the money.
