hey mat its supposed to allow a bit more flex in the rear im plannind on doing it to mine also i let you know how i go
It will also decrease load carrying and is best to be done with very soft springs which means you will need a trac bar also. I wouldnt do it to a daily driver just my opinion

If they are inverted to much / \ it can give you more body roll. It also decreases the effectiveness of the shock. But inverting them a little wont really give you any adverse affects.

if thats the case then howcome patrols run them like this? or does it work differently beacuase of the coils suspension setup?

I may have your meaning mixed up. Are you refering to turning the shocks upside down with the shaft on the bottom or leaning the shocks in like in this picture. The shocks on this picture are in to much and I get body roll.

i have inverted shocks on my 4runner and they go alright for me, they do cause alittle body roll but nothing to alarm you and it gives better flex in the rear.

The only advantage is to be able to run longer shocks, which makes no sense because even though theyre longer, theyre on a wild angle and will not allow any more drop. The shock also doesnt compress very well because they are trying to bend rather than compress.
Its a good idea but someone got the angles WAY wrong when making that kit.
Look at a patrol, landcruiser and even the 75 series cruisers. Yes theyre in an A-Frame arangement, but not on a completely STUPID angle like that.
Looks at Guts' Lux, THIS is the angle you want

Fourxfour my kit isnt designed for on road use as most of superior gear is for offroad but supiour being one of Aus biggest 4wd companies i believe they know there stuff, i myself would probably go the way guts angles are next time only for the fact mines a daily driver but as my kit is now it works.

Mate Mick from Superior does know his stuff and the only reason its off road only is so they can avoid having to meet ADRs and any responsibility that comes with it. Their gear would probably pass but it would be more cost which would mean dearer to us. This is the same reason Snake etc are the same.
However the superior kit is on too much of an angle imo.

Yep for sure, not in anyway saying that its not a good kit for offroad applications, with super soft springs. For on road, with normal rate springs it just wont help at all.

Alot of people have had great success using a leaf pack from an IFS truck. They are longer and will give a better shackle angle. I am yet to try this as I have been told you may need to move the spring pivot mount to get optimum flex but maybe someone else can confirm this. Failing that, The only real way to get good flex in the rear of a Hilux is either have alot of weight over the rear wheels ( steel tray, water tank etc etc ) or remove the 2 overload leaves from the spring pack. You may need to fit a track bar as axle tramp may be an issue.

Try and find an early LN46 hilux, this model has inverted shocks as standard, use this as an example to set one up. I run an LN46 82 dualcab td comp truck with this set up but i must emphasize that a positive trac system is required to avoid axle wrap and bustin' uni-joints, i used standard rear leafs with 3" extended shackles but the weight factor with the custom tray caused major handling problems, now everything that can be possibly moved to the back has been. Food for thought.
