I'm looking into buying a 98-05 Jeep Wrangler, and i've been reading a few reviews about them to work out the pro's and con's.
Apparently the fuel consumtion is a little on the high side, some people have said its ok, others have said its quite high.
Has anyone change the exhaust side of things to try and open it up a little.
Change of headers and exhaust system to help the exhaust flow and maybe stretch the fuel economy?

I've got a cherokee, which has the same 4ltr petrol engine. I put on Hitech extractors and a hi flow cat. Notced a little more power when towing, but didn't notice any better milage. Still get about 400k from a 65ltr tank around town, whatever that works out to be.

Getting cold air to the engine made a bigger difference, about 20k per tank.

On my '97 Wrangler 3 sp auto, which is without doubt the thirstiest of all Wranglers, I have extractors, empty cat. and a straight through muffler with a pipe that ends in front of the rear axle. I have a throttle body spacer and have tried OE & K&N filters.

Each mod was done separately with the results checked for impact on mileage.

Answer is that nothing improved the mileage or overall performance except for the hit off the line, (which is what I want for playing on rocks).

Oh, it definitely sounds better......;)

If economy is really important, don't even consider a Wrangler.

I've seen mixed responses regarding millage on these, some people reckon there getting 13ltr/100km's, other 20ltrs/100km's

I agree with blu. Don't buy a Jeep if you are concerned about fuel consumption/pricing.

Nothing will make it good, though it is still better than some other 4by's.

Wranglers are just great fun not cheap fun - still if you want a 4x4 that is something akin to a mountain goat they are awesome.

I have previously owned a 60 series 'cruiser petrol and a 720 dual cab Dato and now have a '03 wrangler auto and it is much cheaper to run than the 60 series and about the same as the 720, but a hell of a lot more fun to drive.

Have you have any trouble with the Wrangler so far, mechanically wise?
Have you come across and common faults?

OK, what about LPG conversion?

I have posted a question here - http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/f46/lpg-conversion-gas-guzzler-47732/

I new the wrangler was going to be a thirsty beast, but it is a great fun fourby, I thought if it could go over to LPG it would bring the fuel costs down and help save the environment;) .

S'cuse me while I go find a tree to hug!
