Hey all, ive got a 1982 FJ45 landcruiser that im rebuilding and i want to lift it abit, so i thought while the body's off i may as well see if i can fit a body lift.

Is it possible to do a body lift?
What things would i have to customise to make it fit?

Thanks, Matt

Thanks, Matt if its standed stering.
yeah i put a inch lift in.thats all i could get.the stering shaft comin out of fly wall dosent have its own bearing it bolted straight to stering box so i had to put a spacer were the stering box bolts to chassis.but with the angle its on the higher up u go the more it moves back towards body.have a look under front right wheel u will see what i mean the angle of stering box.....i dont know if theres a way around it ir if theres after market bits to do it.heaps of people have done it .i would also like to see what other people have to say.

Thanks for that. I might see when i put the steering back on the chassis if i can move the steering box up without the arms hitting. :thumb:

yeah.the steering colum comin out the fly wall is free floating it will rub on the bracket that the colum is bolted to if ya dont get the right angle.steering rod goin from box to idle arm dosent hit any where just the colum..

hey tuff40,
im lookin to lift mine an inch aswell. did you need to extend brakelines, electrics, speedo cables etc aswell?
as its only an inch im guessing there wouldnt be too much to change as everything should have a little bit of play.
mine has power steering aswell. pretty sure its factory off a later model.

also how did you get on with your shifters? did you have to cut out holes a little bit?

if your wanting to lift if for looks, i thik every one else has covered it. but if your wanting to fit larger tyres, you can do so without any lift(body or suspension) just buy triming, and re working.

from memroy i undone the bolts holding the brake lines to fly wall...undone clips for speedo....the shifters i just adjusted....the steps are also bolted to chassis....i had to give this lift to fit 33 under with the wheel travel it still scrubs on inner guards next to shock but its only just.....sorry took so long to answer

thats odd, on my 40 (same schiatt) and one of my mates 45's we fitted 33x12.5's slight mods with suspension droop and we can place a front wheel on an object just under 1 meter high with no part of the tyre hitting front guard or inner guard(front end only, arse end flexes like a brick at the moment). Maybe you should look into fitting larger bump stops and increasing the droop reather than the upwards travel.........just a thought

yeah any more drop it will scrub worse cause its the angle of tire(when fully traveld)the reason why it scrubs.bump stops are already 2inch extended....i think its the offset of the wheels for this....yeah same got good travel 1.5 mtr or so.....it only just scrub.took 2,3 years to wear thru paint so its nothing to worry about
