Is it correct that SR5 Hilux's with auto hubs has one front side always locked in until 4wd is selected?

My bro in law thinks he has an LSD in front of his as both front wheels always turn/spin at the same speed in slippery stuff. I told him he may have a locker in the front.

Its a 92 model 2.8D non turbo

cheers

The term "auto hubs" isnt correct. They are full time steel hubs bolted to the wheel hub with a spline to an axle each side.

The ADD diff has a half axle on the passenger side that connects or disconnects it from the diff center. It is true when in 2WD, one axle is alway connected to the diff and spinning the planetry gears "off their tit" as you drive along.

The best thing to do is to get some Free Wheeling Hubs (manual) from an IFS 4runner to save fuel (diff gear drag) and diff wear when in 2WD.
