hey all, just need to know something about the G52 gearbox's. i found out the other day that i can take it out of any gear and put it in nuetral while driving without using the clutch. i'm not sure if this is normal or not, but everyone i've spoken to reckons i should get it looked at. just wondering what everyone else thinks.
also i'm starting to have a lot of trouble getting it in to reverse sometimes, i.e. it goes in with a big crunch of the gears.
any and all help much appreciated, thanks- Nick

Can you take it out of gear at any time? Like when its under load, or just coasting? I can take mine out of gear when the revs are low and not under any load. I would be worried if it pops out of gear under load, like going up a hill.

I can go through all gears whilst driving, passing neutral as I shift, up and down from 1st to 5th to 1st without using the clutch. (With correct revs selected.)
So what is your real problem.
Is it the season for Mechanical retail therapy?

Yeah that's right v6hilux. With the right revs, engine load and speed, you can change through the gears without needing a clutch.
The reason clutches are there is because its very hard to match up these things at the same time in general driving.

This could be a clutch problem rather than a box problem.

cheers all, i'll check the revs next time i get a chance to try it, but i think it can come out in a wide range of revs, but easiest in lower i think. with the reverse thing, sometimes when it dont go in reverse, it feels like it goes like half way, and just hits something in the way, but it will still go in to other gears, you've just got to go first->second a few times then try reverse again. but yeah, i'll check it tomorow.
cheers for all the help guys, i love this place.
