ifs front diff leak any help???

hey guys how you all goin, ive got a RN167 single cab 3.0lt hilux with independant front suspension, anyway i was parked at work the other day, walked upto the car and saw oil on the ground. i checked the level in the diff and it was just a little bit low, the leak is slow but constant and it looks like its coming from the left hand side between the diff and the cv joint where it is bolted the gap would be about 1/2 inch but its leakin from there is this a common problem and how cheap/easy is it to fix?? any help would be good cause i dont wanna do any damage

You just need to get yourself a a Driveshaft axle seal.... then either fit it yourself or pay someone to.

how hard is this to fit do u just drop the torsion rod and pull the wheels off? is this a common sort of problem with the ifs??

yes its a common problem. do you have a workshop manual? If your not sure about it spend $150 getting someone to do it right.

i priced it up this morning its $30 for the part i really need a manual too so ill get it and see where i can go from there thanks heaps for the heap champ

I had this same problem but I removed the whole diff and took it into a shop as I got a locker put in it at the same time.

My Haynes manual says you'll need a slide hammer to pull the oil seal out, but you might be able to use a normal seal puller or carefully with a screwdriver and bit of wood for leverage.

To remove the whole diff is probably overkill for this job but its not that hard to remove anyway.

Go to a shop and get a quote. Yeah sometimes it seems little jobs like this cost a lot but you have to remember that you are paying for the convenience of dropping it off and making it someone else's problem for a few hours.
