I have a 06 dual cab D-3D Hilux with 27,000 on the clock and I have experienced a number of reliability issues.

· Clutch slips badly when towing a heavy load, this is due to the clutch being undersized for the size and power of the vehicle.
· Starter motor has been replaced, this is due to the water and mud damage from water crossings.
· Seat belt mechanisms replaced.
· Faulty Airbag sensors

Not what expected from a Toyota especially when you pay for the supposed build quality and reliability.

Has anyone else had these sort of problems?

Can this be upgraded?

had heaps of new hiluxs at work go in for new clutches, all before 30000k. One didn't even make 10000k, and no it's not the drivers it's the car.

Also we have had quite a few 07 models (including mine) go in to get the air con re-gassed as they didn't work at all.

My personal car is a 01' hilux and I would NEVER trade it in for a new model. Not very impressed.

We've had heaps of trouble with the aircon evaporator core clogging up with dust which turns to mud when it hits the condensation.. The whole dash has to be pulled apart to remove it and clean it properly.. i'm sure the toyota engineers put a evaporator core on a saw horse and built the hilux around it lol. We modified the system by placing in a servicable air filter on the suction side. Had a few cv joints failures aswell. One went at 3000km

The old clutch slipping trick - yes I have experienced this when towing me boat. Is on the limit of the hilux which is why I only use me lux when I have to.

The gear change has always been a bit notchy has well.

Have heard about the clutchs but am yet to see one come into me workshop.

My own 07 dual cab D4D auto, has been done up a little and has seen its fair share of offroad in it 10,000km's of life, am yet (touch wood) to have a problem.

They should have had the previous model Prado's suspension in the 98-04 hilux's aswell as the d4d engine in it as they did in europe and the 98-04 hilux's would have been tough as nails.

The panels on the new one are very soft, not impressed by that., and the auto needs another gear!
