I have A 5" lift with castor plates in a 91 maverick. I snapped a trailing arm the other week at Appin and the rear diff wandered a little bit (enough for a 35" Claw to rub and hit the front of the rear guard. I got that fixed no problem but soon as i began to drive home i got large vibrations. I took it to the doctors and they recommend i change my front swivel bearings. they did a balance and cheched it all over. Any help would be great ???

What did you hit to break your trailing arm? On a mates Patrol we were strengthing the lower arms and we noticed that the eye where the bush sits was out of round. The previous owner must have hit something! On doing some checking with a dial indicator on the rear axle flange we saw that the axle was bent a small amount and it cause a shudder through the car at different speeds. He was running original GU rims and 285/75/16 BFG Muds.

are all the arms adjustable? you'll find you'll be able to fine tune everything to get rid of that vibration..
should have a chat to Nick Mannell at Mannell motors ( advertises in 4WD Monthly). He's the guru on high lift suspensions when it comes to that kinda stuff.. he might be able to put you onto someone near you that can help...

We have a 97 Patrol wagon, 3"lift, hit rock shelf and bent both trailing arms, stuffed the shocks, diff was forced up and damaged rear tail shaft. (Put 2nd hand tail shaft in whilst waiting to get the other one balanced, need to replace unis too), New shocks, Chrome molly trailing arms, still had terrible vibrations around 90km, told to get wheels balanced, had five finger balance done, still vibrating. Just hoping that the new tailshaft and unis might fix the problem.
Anyone have any ideas?

Check wheel allignment (not just the front wheels, but a 4 wheel allignment).
When trailing arms were bent, there is a strong chance the allignment was thown out a bit.
Also check bushes.

I had a problem in the front end of the patrol....
after getting the wheels rebalanced and wheel alignment done 5 times, someone with enough brains told me the wheels were buckled...
apparently the GQ rims are really weak on the spokes and can bent easily when you hit a rock a little too hard...
i just replaced them with the sunraysia?? rims.. $65 fitted/balanced etc.. easy..

Be warned, Sunrasia rims will buckle easily too. I had a severe case of wheel unbalance and was told that ALL of my rims were bent! They hold 33x13.50x15 Baja Claws in place so have their work cut out for them. I find that every time I do a bit of hard fourwheel driving they buckle a bit more.
The strongest wheel available to my knowledge is the OUTLAW alloy rim. The don't look too bad either.
