My dirvers side mirror has started shaking like crazy. Manual not electric. Toyota want $210 to $290 to replace. My manual only shows how to remove / replace. Are they repariable? How do you get it apart without breaking it?
Cheers

Don't buy a new one... start by undoing the screw at the bottom of the mirror assembly (philips head) and dropping the mirror away from the body..

If it anything like the elec ones it is a sort of base bracket mounted to the body of the assembly.. these have a tendency to crack!

With my elec one I simply got some silicone sealant and squeezed it onto the broken area and put it all back into place.. didn't drive for a few hours to let it set and haven't thought about it since.

Just watch that you are not fixing into place the parts that are supposed to move.. not hard to work out when you have it in your hands.

Best of luck!

Mine are elec but i think they are roughly the same, I just fixed mine 2 weeks ago got sick of it shaking. I adjusted the mirror fully both ways in behind glass there is like tabs that hold glass in what happened with mine was one of the tabs broke off so mirror shaked/rattled,you have to see which tab is broken,Undo screw underneath as seadog said carefully unhook other tab in behind mirror and that should release glass from housing to give you a better look. I araraldited (sorry about spelling) the mirror back in place where it was broken then put screw back in from underneath and mine has not moved and is fully operational. Hey it worked for me. NOTE: while you have glass out check hole where screw goes is not split mine was so i glued it too. I will never get it off again but hey saved me buying a new mirror this time HOPE THIS HELPS Cheers Steve

Definitely a common 80 series issue....our 80 series had the same thing happen to both mirrors. I used cable ties to put ours back in, but silastic would be a much better option.

I had both mirrors with broken screw mounts and one hook tab on each broken off. I made aluminium brakets with key hole slots and screwed then on. Used QBOND to remake the screw mount. Just re drilled the holes for the screws after the QBOND had set and it now is like new. No more rattles
