View Full Version : 1/2 way between Syd nad Melb
need help for a location...
Each year the "boys" earn enough brownie points at home - to get a pass to got away for the Aussie Day long weekend - usually the guys from Melboring and the guys from Sydney meet at Brindabella mts
looking for a new spot this year - about 1/2 way between Syd and Melb. Same sort of terrain and private camping (with a river) as the Mac Hut area of Brindabella's would be good (you don't want families too close with that much Beer being consumed and methane being produced).
Any suggestions? ( I have the maps so GPS locations are good too)

I think the Hut you are reffering to was lost in the Jan Fires.
What about the Nth Section of the Kosi NP.
Cooleman Mountain, Blue Water holes. Maybe a bit too "family" for you.
There's a couple of more places along the Snowy Mountain Highway between Cooma and Tumut.
Don't have a map in front of me, so cant remember the names. Along the Adaminaby River ??? (I think thats it) Near Yarrangobilly Caves.

A guy at work was telling me about a track down that way with a nice river crossing & beautifule camping spot on it.
If you have grid details, could you PM them to me & I will check it with him & may organise a trip. ;D

I'm from Wagga and we regularly meet up with some Mexicans at Geehi (on the back road to Thredbo) Some good creek crossings and the remains of some fabulous huts that were burnt in the January fires.
Also Micalong Creek near Wee Jasper (east of Yass)
Or Jounama Creek (opposite the Talbingo turnoff on the Snnowy Mountains Highway)

The Brndies are my regular haunt - I wake up to a view of the mountains that form the ACT-NSW border.
Mcintyres was spared in the fires but the whole area is closed at present due to heavy equipment and regeneration etc etc.
There are some wicked areas out that way - try Wee Jasper.
Camps sites are real cheap - tiolets and even gas powered showers if that is what you are after - with a quick run into the northern Kosci NP and the Broken Cart Trail - Micalong Swamp and a heap of other areas.
Drop me an email (grungle@tpg.com.au) and I can let you know some other (wispering) places....
