I will do that, i don't think that they will be to happy with me pulling apart a jeep just to take photos of it, thats why I asked here first, anyone have any idea how much the clip that holds the soft top on is worth?

on the front of my cj7 there is a alloy chanel with a c shape opening on it on the front of the window frame that the soft top slides through you can buy it at some hardware shop or try a aluminiun dealer ie.capral or a place that sell stuff for yacths its not dear to buy ,the soft top has a thin rope type pice sewing in thats slides through the c opening where the hole front of the soft top slides a cross holding it in place.

Wrangler soft tops screw on to the header rail unless you buy an Austops one which clips on with stainless steel clips.

My viking top is different and uses a channel that the front of the top slides into but it's a bit noisier on the hwy. Jeeps are mechano kits i reckon ;)
