Hey All, made a request today on an exhaust, attached is the response. Is this a reasonable price, alternatively - where did you get yours done?
also, is this good advice about "flex joint's" or am I being sold a crock of sh@t?
Thanks, T :thumb:
Hi Tim, thanks for your enquiry
Yes we have done them before.
We can do a 2.5” from the dump pipe back for $400 + $160 for a stainless steel flex joint.
We can do a 3” system from the dump pipe back for $580 + $190 for a 3” stainless flex joint.
Your ute does not have a stainless flex joint standard, but they are recommended as they allow the system to move as the engine rocks.
Without the flex joint you may find that brackets, flanges, joints, etc will crack as they have no where to move as the engine rocks.
As you go up in pipe size the system is stiffer and heavier than standard.

moritz

I'll be watching this one closely as i too am on the look out for an exhaust, what kind of power benefits are they claiming for the 3 inch version.:)

My RA TD has a flex joint under the cab as part of the standard system. When i get my exhaust upgraded i will be making sure they put in a flex joint. The price seems ok as i have been quoted from $400 to $1000 for 2.5" not including the dump pipe

seems perfectly reasonable to me. i say get the 3" system. you know you want to. :D

Is the 3" worth the extra $'s... ?
I know that a "freer flowing" system allows the turbo to spool faster & lower EGTemps etc, but don't you also need some backpressure?
Thanks, and yes - I do wanna :D

all rodeos should have a flex as standard in them, i did a 21/2 on my deo & the difference was amazing

Price looks good to me.
I'd definately put that flex joint in.
As for whether you go 3 inch, the answer is yes :)
backpressure, hmmm
Is it a TD or a petrol
If it is a turbo diesel then you dont need to worry about backpressure but with a petrol you need some ( as far as everyone has told me over the years anyway ). muffler choice will sort ths out.

I am making my own exhaust system for my ute. I made a system for my old r9 model and worked a treat, increased boost by 2psi and held on gears alot longer on hills. it cost me bout $300 for the bits and pieces and about a day to build.

Hi all, don't want to hijack this thread but I have a 2007 VCRD 3.0L rodeo that I want to improve. Have spent some time looking for info in lots of forums. So far this is what I have come up with.
1. High flow air filter (got that)
2. Hiclones x3 (got 2)
3. Snorkel
4. 2.5in exhuast with flex joint and up to a 3in dump pipe.
5. Chip - I'm thinking DPChip
6. Any ideas?
Does anyone think this would be a good/bad setup?
Should I go 3in. dump pipe? - Not real keen on increased hwy noise.

Get it tuned I gues is the next step. Rather than a generic chip, get a wolf or something to suit the engine and get it set up properly.
Hiclones.... Im very sceptical about these things.

What's your ride neonasty?
If you've got a Rodeo then hiclones will probably work for you.
I've got an '07 with 2 obviously and has dropped consumption down from 8.9L/100 to 8.5L/100
My mate has a '95 TD rodeo with 3, I don't know what his fuel use is like but he said he was getting around 8.0L/100km and reckons the increased power and torque are worth it.
His dyno figures are as follows...
Stocko rodeo
Torque = 346.1 lb-ft @ 41km/hr
Power = 78.4 hp @ 82km/hr
3 Hiclones
Torque = 368.8 lb-ft @ 44km/hr
Power = 80.9 hp @ 80km/hr
I just chucked a ITG filter in my '07 and has dropped consumption down to 8.4L/100km....Can't complain.

Regards,Yes he is right about the flex joint.
If this is a complete mandrel bent system then its a good price.
A 3" system will do no more than a 2.5" system on a small diesel engine in a Rodeo. 3" would just be overkill.
I've got a full 3" on my 4.2 turbo Patrol and its plenty big enough.
Flex joint? My V6 Rodeo has flex joints as standard. A diesel should definitely have them.
You dont need or necessarily want back pressure in a diesel exhaust.

When i originally made the system for my R9 2.8TD I tried it with no muffler at all but found that when the waste gate opened there was a loud booming noise through the pipe. fitted a straight through muffler to fix the problem.

So 2007rodeo, where exactly did you get the ITG filter from and is it a direct replacement. Would appreciate any info.
Cheers

G'day Chris,
I got the ITG filter from a supplier in Brisbane, but he is part of a network and they should be available in most major places around OZ.
I hope he doesn't mind me putting his email up so here it is.
grant@airvortex.com.au (grant@airvortex.com.au)
The filter for my rodeo cost $160. A bit pricey but I couldn't find K&N for it. Repco said they didn't make them and it is supposed to be a bit quieter then a K&N anyway.
The filter was a direct fit. Old one out and new one in, in about 3 minutes.
Can't complain about it at all either. Has saved another 0.1L/100km and sounds exactly like the original filter (quiet) when you level out at your chosen speed.
Cheers, Will

i got done a 2 1/2 with a straight through lukey muffler dump pipe back
$550 for mine with flexy joint. i think its well worth it as u might hit a rock and it will save u big money, unless u want to buy a new turbo.
big differance in power, good upgrade and k&n filter will also help improve power
not loud, low deep sound
