I cant decide!!!!
HELP!
Get one of each: that way, when you prang the truggie, you can drive the buggie to get the monster truck.
If you're trying to decide what to build, buy, identify, swear at, shoot at (I'm clutching at straws here) give us a little bit more information about the problem you're having with them.

ok then....
under 1000 bucks
mates have got buggies i was tihnking one of them, then i went to the shop (Nunawading, Melbourne) cant remeber the name, on springvale rd, near the intersection of marrondah hiway
it will probly be things like bmx tracks, mukin round on gravel, speed! and other stupid things that a 17 year old male can think of!
Get a monster truck, that way you can run your mates buggies over!

ive got an 1:8th scale buggie and a 1:10th scale elec buggy.. cant beet the 1:8 scale for speed and toughness!!!!!! great for bmx tracks.. ive even ran mine on moto-x tracks.. id recommend checking out the trading post or your local hobby store for second hand buggies. People tend to buy em (especially the gas ones) and not realise how much effort is required to run them well so you can get a full set up for way less than new price

I have a bunch of them. If you want to race fast on real tracks buy a buggy, if you want to jump high buy a moster truck, if you want the best of both worlds buy a truggy. A truggy with a 28 will really move, it will handle jumps, back yards, dirt and some bitumen well, basically enabling you to run it almost anywhere.
Some monster trucks like the Revo and the Savage do just about anything also without sacrificing handling too much. Hardcore guys will say get the HPI Savage, but I like the Revo better. An analogy could be the Savage is like an 80 series cruiser and the Revo is like a Disco. Both are tough but the Revo does it with a little more finesse which just like 4WD'ing some want to do it easy with a smooth clever vehicle, others want to do it rough and tough.
Don't buy a buggy if you just want to go tear up some dirt and jump things, they are the F1's of the off road world.

Robotronics TXS ftw... Brilliant Truggy

For the Electrics..
E-Savage Monster Truck.. Twin 550 Electric Motors turn 14.4Volts into alot of Grunt... Very Quick...
Off the line it pwns the Nitro, top end unfortunately isn't its strong point.
How ever, in a recent Test we did the E-savage Out Climbed the Cen Genesis 7.7 Monster truck at the Quarry..

so in other words, i give up speed for cost and the whole fact that it doesnt run for as long and i need to own a power station to run a lectric one! yet it will save me in the long run.mmmmmmmm you guys havnt made it much easier apart from the fact that i think a truggie sounds the best:waycool:
lol

Nitros aren't necessarily faster than electric cars anymore, well unless you have the very best nitro motors, but even then the latest electric motors are very very fast. A brushless eletric in a Savage like the one pictured above will show a factory Savage the way home without raising a sweat.
If your budget is $1k, contact OZ-RC in Brisbane, buy an E Savage roller (car with no motor or ESC), buy a brushless motor and a brushless ESC, a couple of high end batteries and you will be floored by the speed. And the best part, no noise and no pissed off neighbours having to listen to a nitro racing up and down the street. You will probably have a little change too.

thanks...
the only problem is that i dont live anywhere near queensland, im a victorian! so somewhere in vic would be best, will the batteries out of my old Nikko Jeep work?? cause i bought three of them so that i would play for ages!!!!

Chances are Your Nikko Batts are 6Volters and the Electrics these days run 7.2Volt 6 Cell batts..
Advances in Electrics are now longer lasting and indeed just as Quick, if not quicker then the nitro's with a few mods.
I have an Electric Monster truck (HBX Bonzer) and it runs for upto 15mins on a 3000mah Battery and with a Swallow advance Charger,I can recharge that Batt, inside the 15mins allowing continual play..
3 Batts is the Minimum, with a Decent DC 12volt charger, you can Run 1,cool 1 and Charge one and last all day..
Look at the HPI Wheely King 4x4 if your after a fun truck that wont cost the earth to run... Its powered by a 550 motor and a single 7.2Volt Battery and is designed to do Wheelstands and Jumps.

Doesn't matter where you live, OZ-RC has great prices and is one of the few shops that will strip the elecrics out and sell you just the rolling chassis, well he does sometimes anyway. Even with postage it will be way cheaper than buying a complete car from another shop.
Chances are the stock E Savage will be fast enough for you anyhow without the brushless conversion.
If the old batteries are 7.2 volt they will work, I doubt they are though, but battery technology has come a long way too, batteries from a few years back won't match what you can buy now.

Hey there mate...'
I was in the same position when choosing my TRUGGY.... It has been mentioned before......
BUGGY..... For the F1 speed and handling...
MONSTER TRUCK..... For the better off road ability and go-anywhere capability..
TRUGGY....... A combination between the 2 BUGGY Chassis with MONSTER TRUCK Tyres.... gives great handling and they rock...
I bouught a HYPER ST TRUGGY with the MACK 28 nitro engine...... no-one can touch it for speed... and agility.... the best on the bmx tracks....
If you are going to buy a Nitro Motor it's the only way to go..... just be warned about the maintenance.... these things are 80% maintenance 20% playtime... But are awsome.....
If you have 1k to spend you can buy a truggy with change for a few hot up mods... or spares.. your gonna need em..
check out my shed for my truggy in action..
cheers....

Hey guys thanks for all your help!! i dont know what i would have done without it!
anyways i have settled for electric, i have seen all the trouble my mates have with their nitro buggy's and well im not the best person when it comes to preseverence!! so i was wondering where i could buy/take a look at a HPI Wheely King in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne!
I know all you die hard nitro guys out there think im nuts but...im not after speed..more hooliganism..up anything!! im like that on a bike and im gonna be like that in/driving a car!!!!
Thanks so much..made my life a little easier????

Buy and Emaxx or E Savage, the Wheelie King will be fun for about 10 mins, then after that you'll get bored. Too slow, handles badly etc etc. Some of the cars from Tandy will be faster. You'll be forever rolling it, it won't land on it's feet when jumping and it's really an entry level car.
For the same money could get a Losi mini LST II which when you add in $200 for a brushless conversion will easily be twice or 3x the speed of the Wheely King, will handle better and with a Lipo battery will keep up with many of the nitro cars, as long as the jumps are too big. It's only 1/18th scale but they are great fun with very very cheap parts.

Ian, I have to Correct you on there...
The Wheely king sure, out of the Box, is a High flying, Wheely popping Jumping machine...
The Wheely King 4x4 how ever, with a simple Battery location rearrangement, 55T Lathe motor and undoing a few suspension clips, turns into a rather cool crawler...
YouTube - Wheely King Bashin' (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EUFnTavAL8Y)
YouTube - Wheely King 4x4 - Shangrila (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-K6PZ06DUN8)
Crawling with the Wheely king 4x4.
The Wheely king does have a High Centre of Gravity, so Yes, go too hard in the corners and she will roll but thats the same for most Monster trucks.. there not meant for Racing but for offroad fun...
While I do Agree the E-savage is a much Better offroader, it should be.. it costs around $300 more then the Wheely King 4x4..

Well that was the main reason i chose the Wheely King and that was because i didnt want to spend 600 bucks!! i want something under that..thats why i didnt get a nitro buggy!! but hey what would i get more fun out of??? plus the E-Savage takes 2 batteries!! wont it take 4evr to charge???? plus can you get a 240V converter so that it doesnt need to be with a the car...i mean the car charger is a great idea for when your buch but what about in the street muking round??

A power supply soon takes care of Charging at home..
I use a Swallow advance and a 3 amp power supply when I am charging at home and then use the Swallow on the Car on location..
A 240Volt Charger would take 8 Hours to charge a 4000mah Battery
A DC Charger at 3amp would do the same Battery in 1hour and 30mins...

What part are you correcting me on ??? ;)
The Wheelie King is slow and does handle badly and my mini LST brushless would easily outstrip the Wheelie King by a factor of 3. One of the guys that bashes with us has a Wheelie King, 3 of us bought Wild Willy's just for a bit of a laugh, one bought the Wheelie King. The WK is faster than the WW's, but we all have between 5 and 30 cars each so it was just something different to play with. It's just so plasticy, (so is the WW) and if you clip a post with a front wheel you are going to be buying parts, the E Savage and E Maxx are tough, 1 mt high jumps aren't going to bother it 99% of the time and both are much faster and will handle much better.
I understand the price thing, but since most of my cars are old collectible 1980's cars like the Bruiser, Hilux, Sand Scorchers I'm used to paying more than $1k for a car.
The charger with the E Savage charges 2 batteries at once so it takes the same time to charge 2 batteries as it does to charge one. JayCar will sell you a 12v transformer so you can charge it at home or just go buy yourslef a new car battery and use your old car battery to charge from. Charge that battery ever couple of months in your real car or buy a Super Cheap battery charger.
Main thing is to have a bit of fun, the WK 4wd will do that for you !

Ok then...maybe your right...i think ill save up a bit longer and get an emaxx or esavage! it will cost more but be more fun in the long run!
batteries! how the hell can it only take 15mins to charge off a car battery that is 12V and 8 hours off a normal electric supply of 240?? i mean wat is the amp difference??
Ian Wilkinson
08-11-2007, 06:33 PM
It's the charger that goes in between the battery and the 240 or 12 v source that makes the difference. Do not use the straight jumper lead type system to connect directly to your 12v battery to charge your new batteries, well not if you want them to last anyway.
Use the charger that comes with the RC to charger the batteries. If you run 4000mah batteries and your charger is 5amp (5000 mah) then it will take a bit under an hour to charger them. The cheap little transformer type chargers output between 200 mah and 1000 mah generally so that's why they take so long.
You can buy dedicated AC chargers though, I use one made by Novak, it takes about 50 mins to charge a 4300mah battery. Expect to pay between $125 and $300 for a good AC charger. The one that comes with the EMaxx is a good charger though but only 12v not 240v.

and the Mess and expense of running a Nitro...
as for the sound? after 10 Years it begins to get irritating.
ELECTRIC FTW!...
Especially Now with Brushless Technology.
gone are the days of Nitro being king..
Now days you would only go nitro for the Mechanical feel and as you said the noise and smoke... thats about it.. I sold all my Nitro gear and am now 100% positively charged..
I will post up some mud Bashing with my offroader soon...
It isn't brilliant but is cheap fun! Till then some Driveway Antics..
