got a fright the other day

after blowing the front diff at crawlerkhana, i unlocked the hubs and moved the transfer stick back to 2H, to drive home. I got about 3 kays up the putty rd, (it was raining at the time) when i heard a horrible noise and the rear wheels locked up and i started to slide sideways, they only locked up for a second or so, i thought what the hell is going on here. after having a look the front drive shaft was still turning even though i had moved the stick back to 2H, it hadnt disengaged 4wd. im assumeing that what caused the lock up was a piece of metal in the front diff had jammed the crown and pinion, causing the whole drive line to lock up until the piece om metal disintergrated. being in the wet on a bend on the putty rd it scared the crap out of me, the moral of the story is- after blowing a front diff ensure that transfer case disengages and front drive shaft is no longer turning

That would have to frighten the piss out of ya!! especially in the rain!! any idea why the transfer didn't disengage? I'm assuming you got it disengage before you continued :-X

yaeh i dont why it didnt disengage, the light on the dash went out, i just put it back in 4 low then 2high a couple of times then it disengaged and i was able to drive it home

your lucky you didnt to more damage to your truck than just the front diff.
