View Full Version : Mazda BT-50 water and engine issue

I was thinking of buying a BT-50 following the recent tests. But have just read where the BT-50 went into 'limp mode' after going through some muddy water. I think the Ford Ranger has the same problem.

Can anyone shed any light on this matter?

A potentially serious issue for those of us who want an outback tourer.

Perfect solution for that is to buy a new Triton instead! :thumb:

Hi Roys,

Well my Ranger has been through a stream or two and has not suffered any issues.

Unless the Mazda got water into something that it shouldn't have?

Did they go into what exactly happened with the Mazda?

new diesel engines have just as much electricery as petrol engines. I'd be getting under the bonnet with some lanotec or something similar.

I am the one that started the thread on diesel contamination maybe you should read that

The vehicles detected a fault with the EGR. Mazda said it was an electrical shielding issue, Ford said it was water. This came from another 4WD mag report after going through muddy water. Either way, I could not trust this system for touring.

Mazda BT50 and Water Problem
We probably made 50 river crossings in our BT50 in the Vic. High Country some up to the bottom of the headlights with no ill effects. Our group did discuss the limp home mode and someone suggested,as a last resort, to disconnect the battery for a few seconds and then try again. You may need to recode your radio but I'm not sure .

You need to talk to TAZZY of here. His had the water problem but ford has worked out what it is. Went away with him last weekend in it and went through water he would have never been able to go through and it was fine. Problem fixed.

Any chance you could get TAZZY to write up what the issue was and how it was solved please?

Hey TAZZY (daz) You told me there are other people on here wanting to kno how to fix the water problem. They must be PMing you. How about you put it on this page for some assistance for them. Yours isn't perfect but at least you can drive though water now. Post your info on here not in PM
