was idling in a car park today in my runner, and all of a sudden there was a BANG.... then the motor shut off. it then started again on the next try, but now when I accelerate and de-accelerate I can hear a TICKING or CLICKING noise coming from around the glove box area. This noise only happens when I accelerate then it CLICKS once then stops until I let off the accelerator then it clicks again. Sounds like a switch turning off and on where the ECU is.

My car is the 3VZE 3.0L V6, Dual Fuel GAS/Petrol.

Any ideas what has happened? The car seems to be running fine, but this noise is worrying me.

Sounds to me like the motor backfired thru the intake. I assume you were running on LPG at the time. This often blows the cover off the air cleaner, or blows apart the air intake piping from the throttle box, so check to see that everything is intact there. The clicking could be coming from the LPG control unit, which may be under the dash. You may have even damaged the air flow meter. I'd have a good look under the bonnet and if everything looks OK, take it to an LPG installer.

you were right... just had a look and the piping that goes from the sir bix to the throttle body has popped off. I will put it back on in the morning and hopefully the clicking stops too!

Thanks for that mate!

i had a falcon that was on gas that would bang then stall. turned out to be the crank angle sensor. though it backfired out the exhast, destroyed my muffler.

I looked at buying a ute on gas a few months back, It had two bath plugs in the side of the air box tied on with a bit of wire, owner told me he was sick of replacing air boxs, You drive the car untill it backfires (about 400m for me) then pull over strait away and put the plugs back in the side of the air box as its now sucking unfilted air. I only went for a test drive around the block and it took 7hrs. His latest idea was to cut a hole in the piping and tape a stubby cooler over it, backfires and blows out through stubby cooler(its ok stubby coolers dont burn he tells me) instead of blowing the bath plugs out. He then pulls out a road worth certificate, the engine bay resembled a kitchen sink.
