Biggest baja claws on lifted '91 hilux?

[hi-lux]

hey everyone, me and my cousin have a '91 hilux dual cab, 2.8 diesel, got a 3" lift and running some 15" rims.

i did a search of here and looked through a few threads but couldnt find an answer..

just wondering what the biggest size claws we could get before running into trouble??

currently running some 31"s, and a mate has 34"s on his later model hilux..

wouldnt mind going for some 38"s although will will run into clearance problems with such big tyres? should we go for something like 35"s instead?

Unless your building a competiton truck dont even think of 38s even to run 35's suscessfully you will have to change diff gears maybe rockcrawler gears stronger cvs and axles move front diff forward prob need to turbo the motor and more. Just go 33's.

Why would you want Claws they suck :p

Just get the grinder out and you will fit larger tyres :D but as Babylux said there is more to fitting bigger tyres than just getting them under the vehicle. They affect gearing, can cause problems with strength of drivetrain components, personally I would do the mods suggested above move your diff forward, cut the inner guards out hi steer, gearing and fit 36" swampers, simex or similiar I am not a fan of claws I think there is better tyres on the market. Then start looking into strengthened CVs axles etc.

ahh ok thanks for that. i thought the gearing might be an issue as well!

the last thing we need is more stuff breaking... just rebuilt the gearbox and put a heavy dutyclutch in!

..then again, if we go the whole way maybe its an excuse for a couple lockers and few other goodies :p

Mate, just go 33's... You'll do it easy with the lift you have, and much less stuffing around as mentioned above...
