Hi All,
I am looking at buying a diesel Disco.
I have noticed there were a lot of autos, not many manuals (prefered option)
I was wondering how auto's go offroad on steep hills?
Assuming there is no engine braking used with autos
Any thoughts appreciated.
Regards
Mark

in a word carefully! but going downhill is the only time a manual box has the advantage
auto boxs can be locked into first gear low ratio which will help

The disco with Auto gearbox is fantastic. As you can lock the gear i for engine braking.

Hi
I used to only buy manual 4wd's beleivng they were better. But I Got sick of changing gears so I thought I would give the auto a shot. I drive a V8i. I guess you could say my disco does some pretty harsh style 4wding and the auto box has never let me down, In fact since having it i can;t ever think of a time i wished i had a manual again.
Go the auto and enjoy !!!

Autos are the way to go I have a V8 D2 and find that with the auto locked in manual mode is as good as it gets
it give you more control and on steep up hills I do a stall with the one foot on the brake it works a treat
the gearing on the Auto is perfect in my opinion
the only neg is clutch start :waycool:

I have a manual at the moment, a diesel, but if i was to do it again i think i would go an auto, control on steep inclines, crawling over obstacles etc is all easier in an auto, and you dont have a clutch to wear out
