If you know the road and plan ahead, you might be able to overtake a slow vehicle.:thumb:

Up a steep road im in either 2nd or 3rd gear... (depending on the hill). So it just depends how high you want to rev in that gear. (if i change up i don't have enough power and have to drop back down)

Oh, mine is a 2.8L (3L diesel). But the 3.0L (5L diesel) I have been with don't really seem any faster.

Well they aren't all that fast. They take off fine at the lights, although people driving other vehicles are only at half throttle while you are flat to the floor.

The power/torque to get up a big dune is where they lack - My old 3 ltr Hilux was slightly better at this than my mates 2.8 ltr. The 4.2ltr Land-cruiser just goes up without any trouble!

You'll survive with it's power, I'm selling my v8 Disco to go back to a 2.8 ltr Hilux so they aren't all that bad... If it is just too gutless for you go a turbo diesel 2.8 ltr or better yet the 3 ltr, or put one on it.

my 3Ltr hilux goes good now it has a turbo and intercooler on it, holds 5th gear on most hills and only need to change to 4th on slower steep hills. If you get it a good price id think about a turbo and intercooler kit.

I sold mine after nearly nine trouble free years. The new owner slapped on a turbo and exhaust and now has nice power and gets 50 to 100 km's more a tank. Why didn't I do it?

Hilux reliability and off road ability not built for speed. Add a turbo still no race car.

three little words.... "i need turbo"

stepping on from a FJ62 petrol - there was noticable difference, not holding gears on hills etc and towing.... but turbo is the way to go.... in theprocess of organising it for my 3.0L 99 sr5 atm... all up bells and whistles gonna b just on 4k but worth it...

just my 2 cents...

I find mine ok. Its got extractors and striaght through 2 3/4 system and i got me mate to adjust the fuel pump. Im running 32x11.5 maxxis bighorns, with a sh*t load of wind drag. 6 driving lights, bar, winch etc. Depends on what you want it for. Im never in any hurry and it pulls 120kmh no dramas
